Help I stupidly down loaded a direct X file that was full of spyware, with the help of a friend have got rid of all of it all except this (Downloader.Win32WinFixer.), my security deleted the virus it contained but how do I check that the program has also gone. Also I do not know to extract log files and paste them on to the site, and if I am honest dont know how to get into log files in the first place. I hope that someone will take pity on an old git

Sorry this has taken so long to get to you but I had to uninstall my internet security becaust it would not allow the program to work aas it thought it was a hijacker. Also thank you very much for your help, I am learning a lot from this site and its members. Once thanks for the help

Run the tool below as adminstartor by right clicking the tool. The problem with vista is the spyware removal tools out there haven't quite caught up with Vista yet but I think you can run it as Administrater.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

I am writing this from my works PC as My home machine had the blue screen of death , and am now busy rebuilding the thing . I tried to download http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip but it would not run, it had a file missing every time I tried to download it and put on the desk top. The only way I could download was to disable my Internet security software. so the Issue is now resolved as I am reformatting the C drive ready to re install Vista.:wacko
Any way thanks for your help, no doubt you will be hearing from me again during my learning experience with PC's and operating systems. :
