DellGAM Virus?

    DellGAM Virus?

    Hello.

My girlfriend's computer is having a whole load of problems. It's Dell Inspiron 630m, running Windows XP. We were unable to start in anything other than safe mode, otherwise a blue screen would appear just after windows started saying the system has crashed. Tried system restore to no avail, and only after installing avast in safe mode were we able to start up as usual (was previously using McAfee, which I think is now uninstalled but there may have been problems with that as well) - avast then started constantly popping up alerts about the same virus/trogan being found (think it was called dellGAM or something).

Unfortunately, avast has now stopped responding, it's worth noting that one of the more recent virus alerts orginated from an avast filepath.

Ran Spybot S&D earlier and deleted about a dozen items it found.

Please help, we'd both be eternally grateful!

Hi, quick update. Just had another virus alert from avast with the following information.
It found a VirusWorm called Win32 : Delf GAM.
    VPS Version: 080123-2, 23/01/2008
It was found in a Microsoft Office filepath, but as I mentioned above, the same Virus had already been found by avast in numerous different programs (adobe, itunes etc).
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Pete

Sorry, there was something else I forgot to mention. There appears to be almost no space left on the hard drive (there should be at least two thirds of the 34GB hard drive as free space). I just tried to open the C: drive to see what was taking up all the space and Avast went totally crazy, popping up almost endless consecutive warnings that it had found this DalfGAM virus in various places. Couldn't even get into the C: drive due to the number of alerts.
    Thanks,
    Pete

    Welcome,

This is a seriously compromised computer, there are trojans on there that will steal personal information such as passwords, online banking and credit card information. While we can clean most of it off there very well could be some left we cannot see and makes this computer not trust worthy without a reformat and re-install. Those companies should be notified if that type of buisness is done on this computer

If you wish to continue please do this:

Download SDFIX and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and choose Install to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
    • Choose your usual account.
    • In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
    • Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the script.
    • It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
    • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log

    Thanks for that.

If you have previously downloaded ComboFix,please delete that version now.

Now download ComboFix and save to your desktop:

    Note:

It is IMPORTANT that it is saved directly to your desktop

    Close any open browsers.

    Disconnect from the Internet.

Please do not re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.

Disable your antivirus program and any realtime malware scanners now

Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.

When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.

That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.

Re-enable your anti-virus and re-connect back to the internet and post the combofix log.

    *Note*
In case your Antivirus or any other realtime scanner is displaying an alert after you downloaded Combofix or while you use Combofix, please disable your scanner and redownload Combofix again.
Some scanners may see some combofix related components as suspicious and block or delete them while there's nothing wrong with them.

    New hijackthis log also please.

    Hi Neal,
Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry if I'm missing something obvious but when I try and start Combofix I get an error message saying:

C:\Documents and Settings\Emzie\Desktop\cfldr not in expected location. Inform sUBs now.

The program will then not start. It has crated a Windows NT Command Script file called start_ and a Windows Command Processor application called kmd on the desktop however.

    Anything I'm not doing properly?

I have seen that once before but can't remember right now what caused it but will research it, in the mean time...

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your desktop.
    • Close all applications and windows.
    • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
    • When the scan is complete, a text file will open - Main.txt
    • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of Main.txt in your thread in the HijackThis Log Help Forum.
    • An additional text file, Extra.txt, will also be available (by default) in the following FOLDER, C:\Deckard\System Scanner.
    • Please go to that FOLDER and also copy the contents of Extra.txt to your post as well.

Note: some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet - please ensure that you allow sigcheck.exe permission to do so.

    What DSS will do:
    • Create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
    • Clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
    • Check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have it installed.
    Post Logs:
    • DSS Scan Results: contents of 1) Main.txt and 2) Extra.txt

    Hi Neal,
Sorry it's taken me a while to reply. I'm afraid I'm having trouble with DSS as well. It will get to almost the very end of its cycle when a dialouge box pops up with the title

    "Autolt V3: dss.exe - Application Error"

    with the details:

'The instruction at "0x7c922ba" referencing memory at "0x7202028c". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate the program. Click Cancel to debug the program.'

I can either click Ok or Cancel, but the program will not finish in either case, and there is no main or extra text file created. The numbers in the error box will be different on each occasion.
This dialouge box has come up several times in the past, usually soon after windows starting up, so I don't think it's a problem exclusive to DSS.
Any ideas? Thanks for your help so far by the way, it's much appreciated.
