    virus protection

    Dear Dal,

Could you please send me links to good virus protection programs.

After trials and tribulations with my old laptop($$), particularly related to installing Vista on an old laptop, I went and purchased a new laptop running Vista Home Premium. I do not have any virus protection at all. Would you please help me.

    Sincerely,

    Terry

Here is a more recent Vista specific review for the more discerning of us:

Consider the testing process that was used:
each app had to try to detect current threats using one- and two-month-old signature files to simulate how well it could block unknown malware.

In conclusion, there is not much real substantive difference in their top four candidates. My personal preference significantly favors NOD32 (#4) because it 'has the best proactive protection by far' and accordingly is much less reliant on up-to-date signature files. See also:

You can try NOD32 (30 days) if you really want to go the trial route and very importantly, it will COMPLETELY uninstall all traces of itself unlike some other candidates.
