When I switch my pc on, my desktop background comes up, but I have no desktop icons or start bar.
Normaly If I use ctrl/Alt/delete, then log off as user, then log back in, this normaly sorts things out, although the background goes to a plain white one with a blue ' hazard' emblem explaining that an error has occured and that windows has turned off my active desktop. Today though I had to log in and out as user quite a few times before things would work.
Ive also noticed for along time now, that if I have a non responsive program and go through the Ctrl/Alt/Delete process, when the pc responds, I normaly get the same message above ( 12 months or longer).

The non-starting problem has only been for a few days, and TBH, Ive only had it since I completed an HP systems update, so that may be some cause of the problem

OK, Ive done as instructed.
When rebooting my pc I recieved the message
" END PROGRAM. NVIDIA TWIN VIEW WINDOW is not responding", so had to end that, this is another problem that Ive been having on and off for a very long time.
On rebooting the pc, it again when straight to my desk top background picture, displaying no icons/start-bar etc etc.
Had to Ctrl/Alt and delete, log off user, and log back on again manualy as before :S

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and choose Install to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

• Restart your computer
• After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
• Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
• Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
• Choose your usual account.

• In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
• Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
• Type Y to begin the script.
• It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
• Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
• Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
• When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
• Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log.

So far pc has only been re-booted and I didnt want to risk loosing the SDFix log by a proper shut down.

OK, Ive switched on/off the pc a few times now.
When switching off, I still keep getting the " END PROGRAM. NVIDIA TWIN VIEW WINDOW is not responding" message box that I have to manualy end.

To get my desktop background back to my chosen one from the plain white one with a blue ' hazard' emblem explaining that an error has occured and that windows has turned off my active desktop, I found that clicking on the button to restore my background, results in an error display, but If I right click the background/desktop, select properties etc, I can get my background displayed by this method.

Im guessing that this is probably more some type of system error, rather than Virus trojan etc?

OK, Ive tried that to the best of my capabilities, but I note that there are still some references to Symantec in there :s
Theres also a Napster reference, Ive tried to uninstall Napster from the add/remove program, it goes through the motions of doing this, It then says to complete un-installation it needs to reboot. If I do this then go back to add/uninstall programs, Napster is still there.
