Ty for the reply but I am unable to boot up in safe Mode......I just get a blank screen with the hour glass pointer.......I have left it that way for 2 hours and still nothing......any suggestions?

Instead of SAFE MODE try selecting 'Last Known Good Configuration'. See:

Your heavily infected PC could be the result of not having updated to all available 'critical security updates' especially Service Pack 2 (SP2) for WINXP.

I have tried last 'Last Known Good Configuration' and that doesnt work either....*pulling hair out* Ty again for your help
