After trojan is removed(RESOLVED)
Hi
I have recently been the victim of the Obfustat trojan. AVG picked it up and put it in the virus vault but couldn't heal it. At every future scan it popped up again. Following advice on the internet I deleted it and disabled system restore. I ran another scan and it didn't appear, does this mean I am safe??????? Also is it now safe to use my credit card for on-line purchases.
Many thanks for any help anyone can give

I need a hijackthis log, go to the read this first section at the top of the forum here and follow instructions for doing that and copy/paste hijackthis back here and I will have a look.

If that trojan you had is the right kind of trojan I would not do any financial transactions, especially if it was a backdoor trojan.
Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
* Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
* This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
* Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
* Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
* Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
* Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
* When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:
* If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:

This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
* After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
* Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
* Close Dr.Web Cureit.
* Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
* After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply. You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report.
New hijackthis log please.

Hallo Neal
I have run the quick scan and when it is complete there are 8 items, I clicked on select all>cure which brought up a sub-menu, delete incurable, rename incurable, move incurable - which option do I take?
Thanks
-
move it means to move to quarantine and that is what you should do.
move incurable

Hallo Neal
Thanks for that info. I completed the quick scan and had 16 objects, two of which were trojans which I moved. I then scanned my two hard drives (one is external used for backup purposes only). However after 2 hours or so I had completed 40% and it stopped scanning - the info on the bottom said c\...mation\MountPointManagerRemoteDatabase. It stuck there and a couple of hours later still hadn't moved. I therefore repeated the scan but the same thing has happened. Any suggestions as how to overcome this little problem?

Let's try this:
Download SDFIX and save it to your Desktop.
Double click SDFix.exe and choose Install to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :- Restart your computer
- After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
- Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
- Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
- Choose your usual account.
- In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
- Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
- Type Y to begin the script.
- It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
- Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
- Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
- When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
- Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log
-
Thanks for coming back Neal.
I have run SDFIX and here is the Report:
SDFix: Version 1.115
Run by V L on 19/11/2007 at 20:57
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
Running From: C:\DOCUME~1\VL0177~1\Desktop\NEWFOL~1\SDFix
Safe Mode:
Checking Services:
Restoring Windows Registry Values
Restoring Windows Default Hosts File
When I got back to the desktop there was an error message saying it could not find:
C:\DOCUM~1\VL0177~1\Desktop\NEWFOL~1\SDFix\RunThis .cmdnThis.cmd
It asked me to do a search but nothing showed up. - As all icons were on the desktop (no Finished had appeared) I went to the Report file.

Did you "extract all"?
Delete SDFix and download and try again please.
