Severe trouble with the internet (RESOLVED)

    Hi

I am having severe trouble with the wireless broadband internet i have, and which has a speed of 2Mbps but nowadays its downloading speed has greatly reduced below 4KBps. Again i am losing internet connection so frequently that i can't even download 1 full Mb of data. So it is nearly impossible for me to download all the latest versions of the softwares you have suggested. But i have all of them of earlier version. So, i worked with them instead. Even posting this thread is taking more than 45 minutes. It was working just fine and i am sure that there is no problem with the ISP because, i have once used the windows restore point and by using that it worked extremely fine. But as i have deleted my restore points i am not able to do that again. I have checked my computer with Windows Defender and it showed my one spyware(i guess) LookMe or some sort. But the same one my AVG could not find although i update it everyday. Though i have deleted that by the software itself.

Please help me tackle this problem.

I am thanking you in anticipation. I have approached you guys couple of times before and you had helped me tackle problems that time. I am grateful for that. I really appreciate your work.

With this i am posting hijackthis log file

    Hi

Yes i did what you had suggested, and it did improve. After that i could download the spybot and did the full scan. it found 13 entries which it fixed.
Still i think i am not able to get the speed i used to get. Earlier i used to get downloading speed of around 60-100KBps but these days i am able to get around 5-25KBps.

    Thank you very much

    Clean out TEMPORARY FILES procedures:
To clean your temp folder, recycle bin, etc..please download this free tool:

    CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/downloadbuilds.asp

    Install Options:
    • Don't install any Toolbars, or other programs, should it ask you!
    • Just uncheck the option of installing the Yahoo toolbar.

It will put a shortcut on your Desktop.

Do not run CCleaner until requested later.

Please download AVG Anti-Spyware to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder. (NOTE: This a different tool from the AVG Antivirus Tool.).
    • Install AVG Anti-Spyware by double clicking the installer.
    • Follow the prompts. Make sure that Launch AVG Anti-Spyware is checked.
    • On the main screen under Your Computer's security.
      • Click on Change state next to Resident shield. It should now change to inactive.
      • Click on Change state next to Automatic updates. It should now change to inactive.
      • Next to the words Last Update, click on Update now. (You will need an active internet connection to perform this)
      • Wait until you see the Update successful message.
      • Click on Scanner on the toolbar at top of this screen.
      • Click on the Settings tab.
        • Under How to act?
          • Click on Recommended Action and choose Quarantine from the popup menu.
        • Under How to scan?
          • All checkboxes should be ticked.
        • Under Possibly unwanted software:
          • All checkboxes should be ticked.
        • Under Reports:
          • Select Automatically generate report after every scan and uncheck Only if threats were found.
        • Under What to scan?

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
    • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
    • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
    • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
    • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
    • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
    • Login on your usual account.
    ______________________________

    Run CCleaner

Select the ‘Options’ BUTTON option (top LEFT), ‘Advanced’ BUTTON, and then UNCHECK the ‘Only delete files in Windows Temp Folders older than 48 hours’ (often, the latest download traffic could be the bearer of bad content – RESET back to default after this particular cleaning).

Select the ‘Cleaner’ BUTTON option (top LEFT), if not already selected. Use the ’Windows’ TAB up front by default.
    • Uncheck ‘Cookies’ option (advisable)
    • Optionally, Uncheck ‘Recently Typed URLs’ option (potentially still useful)
    • Click the ‘Analyse’ button.
    • Thereafter, click ‘Run Cleaner’ after you have reviewed what it proposes to clean.

Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start AVG Anti-Spyware and run a full scan.
Note: If AVG Anti-Spyware screen does not fit your monitor screen Hold down the Alt button on keyboard then tap spacebar, menu should pop up then choose maximize. AVG Anti-Spyware screen should now fit to the screen a lot better.
    • Click on the Scan tab.
    • Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
    • Let the program scan the machine.
    • When the scan has finished, follow the instructions below.

IMPORTANT : Don't click on the "Save Scan Report" button before you hit the "Apply all Actions" button.
    • Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine (1), if not click on the link and choose Quarantine from the popup menu. (2)
    • At the bottom of the window click on the Apply all Actions button.(3)
    • When done, click the Save Scan Report button. (4)
      • Click the Save Report as button.
      • Save the report to your Desktop. I will need you to post this in your next reply.
    • Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.
    Reboot in Normal Mode.

Let us know if there are any noticable further improvements.

    Hi

i did the procedured you had asked me to do but i could not figure out the save report button at the end, and probably report could not be saved. Although i have the problems found in quarantine. If from that i could do anything that it may help you figure out next step?

    Not-A-Virus.Downloader.Win32.PopCab.b (2) low
    Adware.SearchRelevancy (1) Med
    Adware.Generic (1) Med
    Adware.HotBar (1) Med
    Adware.WebRebates (1) Med
    Downloader.Small.bws (4) High

Total 11 infected files were found.

How is your Internet speed now?

  7. #7
    sammie is offline Junior Member
it is working quite ok but lot of other things have changed. For example, when i move my cursor over to that wireless internet icon it shows me the connection speed and some other stuff. The font of that is changed and my explorer's icon alignment also gets disturbed some times. And sometimes even if the connection is there it would refuse to detect the connection until after sometimes. Otherwise whenever it is working, it works fine.

If you still need the report, i can unquarantine the spywares and then again run the scan and then i will make sure that i save a copy of the report.

    Thank you very much

And sometimes even if the connection is there it would refuse to detect the connection until after sometimes.
Is that really any different than before? I also have wireless and it can be very flakey from time to time for unknown reasons. Sometimes it could be random interference from nearby operating devices (often at specific times of the day) or other unknown causes.

Often with good results, I will first double-click the wireless icon and click the 'disable radio' button followed by 'enable radio' button before considering a hardware reset of the router and/or then the PC. Sometimes, also changing the location of the access point or repositioning the antenna has helped.

Recently, I updated our laptop NIC drivers which were fairly outdated (2 different DELL models and adapters). In one case, the process downloaded a new driver and then completely uninstalled the old before doing a clean install. Things have seemingly been much more reliable since.

Additionally, I have recently added an additional new N-based router that one of my laptops definitely prefers over the other - go figure (two preferred devices to pick from - all others are 'excluded' from ANY potential access). This additional router was made necessary because we would constantly have one laptop periodically lose its connection while the other would have no issues whatsoever. Now when that happens, it is often possible for the down unit to get connected on the alternate access point (without affecting ongoing activities on the other unit). That is my wireless reality and likely the true nature of that technology in general.
