    Owen,

The search bar has returned to the bottom of my IE. (I think my wife was using IE today and picked it up somehow.) This is embarassing and frustrating.

I have installed SpywareGuard and it keeps telling me that something is changing my IE search bar (about every 30 seconds).

    Hijack This log:

Get the message across to the whole family about this, its no good just you knowing because when someone else uses the PC, they haven't a clue what these things are.

The spyware has managed to get into your system and drop the files and its trying to add the toolbar, and thats what SpywareGuard is detecting and blocking.

Close all browser windows, restart Hijack This and put a checkmark next to the following entries:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Book Logo Test Cash] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Option user book logo\more logo.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Creative Beep] C:\DOCUME~1\Family\APPLIC~1\MIX1SE~1\Settings Pile Axis.exe

    Click Fix Checked

Then boot into Safe Mode and ensure that you are showing Hidden Files and Folders.

    Delete the following folders:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Option user book logo
    C:\DOCUME~1\Family\APPLIC~1\MIX1SE~1

    Reboot

Download the LOP Uninstaller from here. Run it, reboot and then post a fresh log.

Could you create a new log and post a new log. I believe something has gone a bit wrong with the copying and pasting there.

    Owen,

I tried to install the AVG Antivirus program but it gives me an error that it can't find shell.dll. Any tips?

    Go to C:\Windows\system32\dllcache

Locate a copy of shell.dll. Right click it and select Copy.

Go to C:\Windows\System32 and right click in a blank space and click Paste.

Let it overwrite the existing file (if there is one).

    Boot into Safe Mode

Restart Hijack This and check these entries:

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Creative Beep] C:\DOCUME~1\Greg\APPLIC~1\MIX1SE~1\Settings Pile Axis.exe

    Click Fix Checked

Reboot and post a fresh log

for windows XP users that are being affected by coolwebsearch, and the looking-for.cc homepage hijacker and the TIBS dialer annoyance and the elite toolbar, and the search assistent, after you disinfect your system you need to look for and delete the folllowing folder. c:\windows\system32\services
this is where the sneaky bastards park the primary exe files that are responsible for regenerating all the nastiness.

Please be aware how this seemingly unremovable P.O.S propogates through your XP system. I had tried everything that has been posted here, and as usual the looking-for.cc, search assistent, tibs dialer, elite toolbar, xxxtoolbar just kept coming back. Well here's why, what I just discovered while attempting my latest attempt at removing thsi file was a seeming inconspicuous folder, c:\windows\system32\services
looks official right? Like an important operating system folder, right?
WRONG!!!!! Inside this folder were 5 .exe files. I wish I had written them all down, but the following .exe files tipped me off that this folder does not belong on the system. The files were, elite.exe, dktibs.exe, xxxtoolbar.exe and a couple other suspicious .exe files that were associated with the ongoing reinfestation.

So here's the steps I took to finally rid my system once and for all of these seeming unremovable hijackers.

    1. Installed Spywareblaster
    2. Installed Spybot Search & Destroy
    3. installed Ad-Aware SE Pro
    4. enabled adwatach
    5. ran Adaware until it blew clean
    6. Ran Spybot until it blew clean
    7. Followed the steps to clean the registry and reset home page
    8. Did and in place reinstall of Windows XP and re-installed Service pack 2
    9. Discovered C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SERVICES folder and deleted it
    10. Emptied recycle bin
    11. Reran Adaware until it blew clean again
    12. Rebooted.

It's been 3 days now and there has been no more problems with these
    POS hijakers

Good luck....for windows XP users that are being affected by coolwebsearch, and the looking-for.cc homepage hijacker and the TIBS dialer annoyance and the elite toolbar, and the search assistent, after you disinfect your system you need to look for and delete the folllowing folder. c:\windows\system32\services
