I just ran another Bitdefender scan and it only found Slammer, which turns up on the BlackICE screen with monotonous regularity. The NOD32 screen flashed again during the scan with another variation on the earlier messages - I'm not going to worry about it again, I'll just Quarantine and Delete, but I'll contact Optus to see if they have had any other complaints.

Sounds like a plan, if it doesn't work maybe we can figure something out, not sure tho after reading what I found about your ISP.
