    Hijack Log

    A friend suggested I post this log here, and you guys would help me!!!

    Pretty please! I am about to throw this laptop out the window!!

    Adobe Acrobat and Word are locking up, my system is running really slowly and it "sounds" like there are things running in the "background". When I open the task manager, it doesn't show other applications running, but when I go to shut the system down, messages will pop up that say certain programs are shutting down (programs with a ton of letters that I have no idea what they are).

    Do you know exactly what that website is and that it is absolutely trustworthy?


    You have also 'hidden' possible malware issues via use of 'MSCONFIG'. These will be identified when we run a scan below.


    There is a non-standard HOST file entry showing - a simplified start point might be advisable, here:

    • Unzip it to a convenient place and run the program.
    • If you see in the top BOX (Editing Tools) ‘Your Hosts file is editable’ then press the ‘Restore Microsoft’s Original Hosts File’ button (in the Backup and Restore Tools BOX) and OK.
    • If you see red text (‘Hosts file is marked as read only’) then press the ‘Make Hosts Writeable’ button - then the Restore Original Hosts button and OK.
    • Close the program.



    Remove the current install for HijackThis so that we may re-install in a more approriate location in a subsequent step.



    Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your desktop.
    • Close all applications and windows.
    • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
    • When the scan is complete, a text file will open - Main.txt
    • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of Main.txt in your thread in the HijackThis Log Help Forum.
    • An additional text file, Extra.txt,will also be available (by default) in the following FOLDER, C:\Deckard\System Scanner.
    • Please go to that FOLDER and also copy the contents of Extra.txt to your post as well.

    Note: some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet - please ensure that you allow sigcheck.exe permission to do so.

    What DSS will do:
    • Create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
    • Clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
    • Check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have it installed.
