Also, on my computer we have 3 user accounts, does this make a difference to any help you give?

Hello George. Sorry for the delay.

    Let's get started.
    1. Let's get an Uninstall List from HijackThis:
      • Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
      • Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
      • Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
      • Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.
    2. Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
      http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm
    3. Please Download NoLop to your desktop from one of the links below...
      Link 1
      Link 2
      Link 3
      • First close any other programs you have running as this will require a reboot
      • Double click NoLop.exe to run it
      • Now click the button labelled "Search and Destroy"
<<your computer will now be scanned for infected files>>
      • When scanning is finished you will be prompted to reboot only if infected, Click OK
      • Now click the "REBOOT" Button.
      • A Message should popup from NoLop. If not, double click the program again and it will finish.
--If you receive an error, "mscomctl.ocx or one of its dependencies are not correctly registered," please download mscomctl.ocx to your system32 folder then rerun the program.
    4. Please re-open HiJackThis and scan and save a new log file.
    5. Post Logs
      • Smitfraud Results
      • NoLOP Results (if any are produced)
      • New Hijack This Log

EDIT: As for the seperate user accounts, yes, unfortunately we will have to clean all three. We will try to do them all in this one thread. What I will need is a Hijack This Log from each users account. Please post them here and I'll get them looked over as soon as possible.

You did great George. Let's keep at it and we should have you finished up shortly.

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be available to you at certain points of the removal process (while in Safe Mode). Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.
    1. Remove Questionable Programs. Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Scroll down to and highlight each of the following programs and select uninstall/remove:
      • BitComet 0.68<---At least until we're done. To cut off any inflow of more baddies.
      • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3<---Outdated. We're going to get the new one next.
      • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2<---Outdated. We're going to get the new one next.
      • LimeWire 4.12.6<---At least until we're done. To cut off any inflow of more baddies.
      • Messenger Plus! 3 & Sponsor<---Most likely the source of your infection.
      • Messenger Plus! Live & Sponsor (CiD)<---Most likely the source of your infection.
      • SopCore 1.1.1<---Do you recognize this entry? If so, let me know what it is and leave it out of the fix please.
      • Viewpoint Media Player<---Related Link
    2. Update Java:

Click here to download the latest version of java ( Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1 ). Please install it and then reboot your computer.
    3. Run Smitfraud
      • Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
      • Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
      • Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
      • You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.
      • The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll.
      • Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.
      • A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please
        do it yourself manually.
      • The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.
    4. Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
      • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
        Under Main choose: Select All
        Click the Empty Selected button.
      If you use Firefox browser
      • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
        Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
      If you use Opera browser
      • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
        Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.
    5. Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of AVG Anti-Spyware Scanner: AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5
      • Download the AVG Anti-Spyware Scanner installer to your Desktop. Find the icon on your desktop and double click on it to install.
      • Let AVG Anti-Spyware Scanner open once it is installed.
      • The first thing you need to do is update the detection definition files.
      • From the main AVG Anti-Spyware screen, click on UPDATE in the top menu, then click the Start Update link.
      • After the update finishes (the status bar near the top will inform you of progress), click on the Scanner button in the top menu, then click on the Settings tab.
      • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
      • Under "Reports"
        • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
        • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
      • Click on the Scan tab. Then click on Complete System Scan. This scan will take a while, please be patient.
      • Once the scan is complete, you will be prompted if any items are found that need attention. Select Apply all actions. This will take a moment or two.
      • When AVG Anti-Spyware Scanner reports All Actions Have been Applied you can close AVG Anti-Spyware Scanner. The report was automatically saved if the settings were set as instructed. The report will be located at C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\Reports\
    6. After that, Reboot.
    7. Please re-open HiJackThis and scan and save a new log file.
    8. Post Logs
      • Smitfraud Results
      • AVG AS Results
      • New Hijack This Log

Sorry for the delay George. I did not get the automatic notification of your reply. My apologies.

Let's get a bit more and then let me know how things are running.

You may want to print out these instructions as you will not be able to access them online during part of the fix.
    1. Please disable AVG Anti-Spyware by opening the program and on the Status page - beside "Resident Shield" click on "change status" so that it says "inactive" for it may interfere with our HJT fix.
      • Remember to reactivate this feature when all our work is finished.
    2. Display Hidden Files Please set your system to show
all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.
    3. Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below being careful to get only these:

      R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
      O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
      O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5B20194F-C69E-833C-4552-02AB3E4088B2} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\oylrovm.dll (file missing)
      O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [second hide bags bird] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Global dumb second hide\window copy.exe
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NI.UERS_0001_N68M1801] "C:\Documents and Settings\Thomas\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\IDY4CQEQ\ErrorSafeFreeInstall[1].exe" -nag
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ERS_check] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\ers_startupmon.exe"

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Exit Hijack This.
    4. Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

      DriveCleaner
      ErrorSafeFreeInstall
      WinAntiVirus
      WinFixer

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response
    5. Reboot into safe mode.
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.
    6. Delete Files/Folders
Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these folders (if present):

      C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Global dumb second hide

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these files (if present):

      C:\Documents and Settings\Thomas\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\IDY4CQEQ\ErrorSafeFreeInstall[1].exe

    7. After that, Reboot.
    8. Run an Online Scan at http://www.trendmicro.com/hc_intro/default.asp
      • Click 'Scan Now. It's Free'
      • Make sure 'Yes, I accept the Terms of Use' is checked and click the Launch Housecall button.
      • You may be prompted by a Security Warning. Select Run to allow the application to Proceed
      • Click 'Scan'
      • Now, select Next under Scan complete computer for malware, grayware and vulnerabilities
      • Your entire computer will now be scanned.
      • Play the 5 question trivia (that never changes) to pass a small amount of time (optional, of course)
      • Take note of any files that can not be cleaned by the scan, write them down and manually delete them (from safe mode if need be)
      • If you need help deleting and object, post the name and location in your thread or start a new thread IF you don't already have one started.
      • Save any log file that it creates for posting back here..
    9. Please re-open HiJackThis and scan and save a new log file.
    10. Post Logs
      • TrendMicro Results
      • New Hijack This Log
      • Let me know how it's running.

I left the computer to answer the phone during the trendmicro scan and when i came back the internet window was closed.

When the problems started i noticed there were new entires in my favourites list which were not put there by me, and also other folders in it, none of which were valid links to anything. These had gone after the trendmicro scan. In the 10 minutes after the scan i havent had any pop ups on my computer so far so fingers crossed.

Here is the new HJT log:
    Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

So hopefully assuming that this has fixed the problem what is the next step?
Do i need to repeat the processes on the other user accounts?

Anyway thats my log and thanks for the help so far.

    Hello George.

Not quite ready for the other accounts yet, and the procedure may be drastically different (or similar) for them, depending on what they may be infected with. We'll get those shortly.

Let's finish with this one first.
    1. Find File Path
      • Click Start > Search > For Files or Folders.
      • Click All Files and Folders.
      • Click More Advanced Options
      • Make sure there is a check in the boxes beside:
        • Search System Folders
        • Search Hidden Files and Folders
        • Search Subfolders
      • Then type ShowWnd.exe into the box labled "All or part of the filename" and click Search
      • Make note of the file path (ie. C:\Windows\System32, or whatever it is).
    2. Jotti File Submission:
      • Please go to Jotti's malware scan
      • Copy the file path found in step #1 into the File to upload & scan box on the top of the page:
      • Click on the submit button
      • Please post the results in your next reply.
