    lsass.exe

I have two laptops, both running Ad Aware and Symantec Norton...

Two days ago, the one the kids play on started giving me the message lsass.exe - object not found...its OS is Win XP Home that was supposedly patched to SP2..

The only choice I had on the given screen was to click 'OK' and let it reboot....it wouldn't even allow a safe mode start or anything...EVERYTHING came back to the same spot...

In addition, it changed my administrator password (which was 'enter'), again, always ending up back at the 'OK' button. I even tried several programs to override the password, only to get back to the same point.

Short story made long - sorry - I ended up reinstalling Win XP (Home Edition) into a new directory (WINDOWS2)...on the same drive...

I then patched Win XP Home and ran several 'tools' and all say I have no virus.

I know that something is wrong - like a virus - because several times a 'blue screen' appeared with a funky, smudgy 'Windows XP' logo in the upper right...and it would say 'Re-Setting Start Up'..... then eventually back to the 'OK button'....which I would have click to get past...then auto-reboot...

I personally scanned that drive at least every other day with Ad Aware AND Norton - but somehow it didn't catch it -....is this the Sasser worm from years ago?

    What should I do now?

Is this something you can help me with?

I would like to get back to the original XP Boot up (WINDOWS)...is that possible?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Potentially, the following search (or keyword variations) may help shed some light on your issues. Your reinstall may/could very much complicate getting back to the your previous setup. Might need some additional advice (manual 'system restore' procedures and expected anticipated success therein) from the XP FORUM:
