Well...I turned off a few more startup programs...but I don't think they are causing any slowness. What I did do which boosted my pc speed to near-normal levels was to disable my McAffee On-Access Scan...which could be potentially hazardous if I download files off the net.

The changes which I made which had significant effects so far has been to disable my 'SSDP Discovery Service' as well as my McAffee On-Access Scan.

Hmmm...there's only 1 active window open now and it's IE explorer. There're two background files under processes which I'm not too sure what it is...MsMpEng.exe and Dot1XCfg.exe of which I'm not too sure of.

As of this moment, there're 46 processes running, idle CPU usage fluctuating between 1-10%, under 'Handles' there are 9941 Handles and 528 Threads.

Total of 1038444 under Total Physical Memory (K). About 562700 Available and 300000 in System Cache.

Under Commit Charges (K), there's 396000 under Total, 26005000 under Limit and 411000 under Peak.

For Kernel Memory (K), there's about 60000 total, 40500 Pages and 19500 Nonpaged.

Hmm.

Oh, as for a lot of HDD light activity, I see a bit and quite a long period when I open programs in general. As I have more programs open (more than 2 perhaps of IE explorer and WMP perhaps), it starts slowing down.

And sometimes when I try to open Windows Media Player...it doesn't open at all the first time. But when I check the task manager, it's there alright, wmaplayer.exe but it's running at a very low CPU mem/virtual mem. As if it was a tiny background program. I'd have to double click it a second time to actually open it up. Am not sure what this means.

I only have 1 download client running...my virus scanner is disabled...and I'm not doing anything, yet CPU usage is past 50% and I can't see through task manager what's taking up the processes - system idle stays within 95-99 all the time.
