I give up. I didn't get a recovery disc with this thing, so I'm going to reformat the hard drive and cross my fingers.

I did an FDISK to the C drive, bought a new copy of XP, and installed it with no problem. Everything is clean and functional now.

I'm running Windows Firewall, Windows Defender, McAfee Antivirus and McAfee SecurityCenter to protect me. Any thoughts on those? Should I get the McAfee Firewall? I was advised to get PC-cillin too.
