Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and open the file named hosts with Notepad.
The file should look like the image displayed below. The writing at the top can be left alone. If you have edited the hosts files, leave the things you have edited alone.
Delete anything else that doesn't appear in my hosts files shown below. Make sure you leave all the information at the top and the 127.0.0.1 localhost entry.
If you don't understand what I'm asking, please ask and I'll rephrase it.
-
Thanks for the reply. I followed the steps to get hosts onto the notepad, and it looks like this:
# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
127.0.0.1 localhost
Also, you refer to "an image displayed below". Im not sure about that, I didnt see an image that you are referring to.
-
Sorry, my bad mistake, I forgot to attach the image. That is correct, that is what your host files should look like.
I can't understand why you are being redirected to that site, it doesn't appear to be a browser hijacker site and there is nothing in your log that points to spyware.
-
Well, I cant seem to get around the redirect. I have gotten to HeadsGonnaRoll by doing a google search and clicking on a search result link, but when I try to navigate around the site, it immediately takes me to drudgereport. Also, my girlfriends's laptop (which is connected to my pc via linksys) does the same thing. Any ideas at all for me?
-
I can't understand why it is happening on both PC's. It is strange how you can access some pages of the site using Google as well.
Could you read the Hijack This Logs post at the top of this forum and download and run Ad-aware and Spybot. See if they detect any spyware.
-
I have run ad-aware, spybot, spydoctor and comcast security manager. These programs detected some stuff but after removing what they found it didn't help. I've contacted comcast and they don't have an answer. I'm thinking about just doing a complete system restore.
-
I'm not sure whether that will help. I think the problem lies not on your PC, but with the internet connection. I can't see anything or your PC which is causing the redirection problem so I possibly think its down to your ISP, although I'm not 100% sure. I can access the site fine without redirection.
Could you possibly download and install Firefox from www.mozilla.org and then go to the website you are trying to access and see if you can get through. If you can get through with Firefox, then we know it is down to Internet Explorer and can have another go at fixing it.
