    virus/malware assistance urgent (RESOLVED)

    Hello DAL

    I ran avg anti-spyware 7.5 today, i.e ewido.. and i have the problem of "backdoor.VB.aym", "logger.VB.pw and "Trojan.Qhosts".

Now before i do anything i saw that it seems to be the same as if not similar to: "http://www.d-a-l.com/help/showthread.php?t=47212&page=1"

so should i just get it over with and delete scvhost.exe which i noticed is under my user name insted of 'system' or 'local network'

the trojan.Qhosts file is C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts im not sure if i should quarantine that..

    reply soon =D thanks.

edit: may as well put this in:

Try the following first and then check to see if anything is still left behind that is 'scvhost.exe' related (in the steps listed next):

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and choose Install to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
    • Choose your usual account.
    • In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
    • Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the script.
    • It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
    • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log.

it seems to be the same as if not similar to: "http://www.d-a-l.com/help/showthread.php?t=47212&page=1"
    .........
the trojan.Qhosts file is C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts im not sure if i should quarantine that
Infections do not remain static. Even after AVG AS, the infection appears to be very alive and well. The 'hosts' file is likely a critical reinfection point. Delete the current 'hosts' file.

    NEXT,

Read over the following directions. Ask if anything appears unclear to you.

    Clean out TEMPORARY FILES procedures:
To clean your temp folder, recycle bin, etc..please download this free tool:

    CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/downloadbuilds.asp

    Install Options:
    • Don't install any Toolbars, or other programs, should it ask you!
    • Just uncheck the option of installing the Yahoo toolbar.

It will put a shortcut on your Desktop.

Do not run CCleaner until requested later.

We will be restarting into Safe Mode later on in the fix and you might not be able to access the Internet. Accordingly, it is probably a good idea to print out the following directions or copy them to a text file on your desktop using NOTEPAD. Read these instructions carefully and feel free to ask if you're unsure about anything.

SELECT HijackThis FIX ITEMS: Scan with HijackThis and place a check next to these items:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ALCMTR] ALCMTR.EXE
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WINDOWS UPDATE] C:\WINDOWS\scvhost.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSCONFIG] C:\WINDOWS\scvhost.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ICQ LITE] C:\WINDOWS\scvhost.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UPDATE CHECKER] C:\WINDOWS\scvhost.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ANTIVIR] C:\WINDOWS\scvhost.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [WINDOWS UPDATE] C:\WINDOWS\scvhost.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [MSCONFIG] C:\WINDOWS\scvhost.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [ICQ LITE] C:\WINDOWS\scvhost.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [UPDATE CHECKER] C:\WINDOWS\scvhost.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [ANTIVIR] C:\WINDOWS\scvhost.exe

Make sure that all browser windows and internet links are closed, even this one!
    CLICK ’FIX CHECKED’ with HijackThis.

HIDDEN FILES: To make sure you can see all hidden files, please follow the directions here

SAFEMODE: Boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key at restart and choosing 'safe mode' menu option (explained here if needed).

Delete TEMPORARY FILES: Now, use CCleaner to hunt down the most common temporary file locations and the temporary file clutter contained therein (and of possible malware hiding places):

    Run CCleaner .

    FIRST-TIME USE:
Select the ‘Options’ BUTTON option (top LEFT), ‘Advanced’ BUTTON, and then UNCHECK the ‘Only delete files in Windows Temp Folders older than 48 hours’.

Select the ‘Cleaner’ BUTTON option (top LEFT), if not already selected. Use the ’Windows’ TAB up front by default.
    • Uncheck ‘Cookies’ option (advisable)
    • Optionally, Uncheck ‘Recently Typed URLs’ option (potentially still useful)
    • Click the ‘Analyse’ button.
    • Thereafter, click ‘Run Cleaner’ after you have reviewed what it proposes to clean.

***** Clean out the Recycle Bin for items removed below, ONLY once you have regained the full functional use of your PC.

Navigate to these files or folders using Windows Explorer (OR Start -> Search) and delete (if present):

    DELETE FILES:

    ALCMTR.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\scvhost.exe

POST A REVISED HIJACKTHIS LOG for review:
Reboot and post a new HijackThis log with any feedback as appropriate - how things are now behaving: any new or remaining apparent issues.

    thanks vopthis,
the file has stopped coming up in the task manager... and no problems so far... but there wasnt really any noticable problems when the virus was still there.

    couple things...
there is a scvhost.exe in the folder backups, should i get rid of it, i guessed yes, but im not sure.

also there is a file alcmtr.exe-235f9538.pf file and many files have the same icon as the alcmtr.exe. the alcmtr was related to realtek in the light grey description.. could it just be part of my sound driver? sound still works though.

With the hijackthis search i could only remove the entry 'O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ALCMTR] ALCMTR.EXE' the others were not there.. this is because the sdfix worked well and removed them first?

edit: 1 more thing i forgot, with the hosts file that i was meant to delete there were 2, HOSTS and hosts.ics, i deleted them both...

there is a scvhost.exe in the folder backups, should i get rid of it, i guessed yes, but im not sure.
Yes - just make sure that the file name is exactly as you have spelled and not a minor spelling (possibly legitimate) variation.

also there is a file alcmtr.exe-235f9538.pf file and many files have the same icon as the alcmtr.exe. the alcmtr was related to realtek in the light grey description.. could it just be part of my sound driver? sound still works though.
The removal of alcmtr.exe is mainly done because of the phone home behavior from this particular REALTEC file.

i keep gettn this file in spybot:
    smitfraud-c.
everytime i remove it its still there when i scan again..
this has been happening b4 i did the other fix.
oh no, i realized its a registry for something ending in \scvhost.exe
    should i delete it?

I deleted it and its fine, i scanned with addaware spybot and avg as, and no problems..

Many thanks vopthis, keep up the great work.
