    res://shdoclc.dll/DNSERROR.HTM

    Hi,
I am having intermittent problems connecting to a secure service at my university. It sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. They blame my ISP, my ISP blame my computer or them - round and round in circles. The latest is that my ISP say I have a spyware issue. I have avg anti virus and spyware installed and lavasoft adware.

Sometimes I get the error res://shdoclc.dll/DNSERROR.HTM# in IE. Sometimes I just get that the page cannot be found. This is in IE, Mozille Firefox and Mozilla.

My ISP said I should be concerned because if I type NETSTAT at the command line prompt I get a list of about 50 items which they say is related to spyware.

Really hope someone can help. Here's my HiJack log.

The latest is that my ISP say I have a spyware issue
There are no problems evident in your HijackThis LOG. And by running AVG Anti-Spyware you have not indicated any evidence of infection and possible spyware.

Can you hook up your PC by wire in case the source of your issue may be wireless related?

A 'netstat' output might also prove helpful (by PM if you would rather for that step):

    NETSTAT -an

Hi. Will test hard wired connection later this morning, when kids at school. How do I output the netstat log?
    Thanks

How do I output the netstat log?
Open a command window: Start>Run>cmd (ENTER)
Enter (copy and paste) the following lines at the prompt and execute, one at a time:
    NETSTAT -an>nslog.txt
    NOTEPAD nslog.txt

Thanks for your response earlier. I've reconnected through hardwire usb modem. This appears to have short term rectified the problem, however I do not have confidence that this proves my router is at fault. However, here's my netstat log with the hardwire modem connected. will go back to router in a moment and contact you back again on forum.
    Thanks again

Have PM's my netstat log. It was too long to include this message as well, so have posted here.
    Thanks

OK - I've connected back up with my router and I get the error again - so I guess it is my router maybe.

Can you suggest what I should look at in the router settings. I am aware of the dns server entries which can be entered for my ISP as opposed to having it dynamically done.

    Hope this makes sense.

Also - am I virus / spyware free? unsure about my netstat log as my ISP said I should only have 3 entries max in it.

    Thanks

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
    Re:NETSTAT:

You only have three (3) distinct IP addresses in use - nothing wrong there:

    - two (2) common internal pattern LOCAL addresses - 0.0.0.0 and 127.0.0.1
    - and ISP assigned address 84.13.x.x - presumably your ISP assigned address

Potentially your problem is likely with your use of a proxy server (port 9100). That can create complex setup issues when a router is involved (specific needed router setup configuration settings) and likely explains your observed issues. Neither your ISP nor myself is likely prepared or able to specifically address such varying degrees of setup complexity (beyond the basics) given the number of router models out there.

However, someone might be able to advise you in our 'Firewalls and NetWorks' or 'Internet Browser Issues' FORUMS if you specify which specific router model you are using.

You can also check out your specific NETSTAT reported external addresses if you are unsure which sites are being accessed:
