It is very difficult to help out without specific filenames or exact error messages.

You may have more success if you run the affected scan in 'SAFE MODE' or turn off any real-time (always on/checking) security tools except your antivirus, if any, which could contribute to interference when cleaning was being attempted.

Please advise whether the scan was run in the latest reported profile.

ihave ran the anti-virus in safe mode, and it scaned for nearly 2 days and the wierd part abotu it is that it did not reboot. i take it it is not the power supply but a harddrive issue, since it started rebooting once i have went in normaly mode afetr the scane. Is there any way i can copy the files that have been notified as errors and the file that has the virus threat which is in the virus chest?

I believe it is time to take this PC to a shop for hardware troubleshooting assessment or to backup all critical user files and to do a clean install. You can first try the XP FORUM if you want.
