Hi i have recently purchased a laptop from Dell its an inspiron 6400. the spyware checkers i use are mcafee ( which came with it ) avg and tronjan hunter. i also use adaware to scan.

Now one day my laptop caught a virus and i dont know how. It kept popping up on my item tray (which is the little icons on the bottem right of the screen whre it says the time) and it was saying you have a virus etc except i know that was the spyware. It also kept redirecting me too porn sites and bringing up sites about a virus scanner called win something i cant remember. adn telling me to download it. WEll i went onto windows safe mode and scanned and then used the smith fraud thing and i think i got rid of most of it. its still there tho just not as much and now my mcafee is coming up with a virus called vundo and even though it keeps catching it it comes back and back. Now u see im pretty competant with a computer and would of Reformatted but i didnt get a reinstall cd for windows xp media centre . and now another problem has arrived my laptop wont Shut down properly, it goes into the bit just when it says windows is shutting down and thats on a good day ,mostly it just wont turn off prefering to stay on the main screen or desktop and refusing to shut down even when i press it again and again.

Can any one please help i havent even started paying for it yet lol and its alrdy doing this ive tryed all except reformatting and your my last hope or its time to wring the dell if it cant be fixed here. ok thanks!!

i also tryed to do xp systemrestore to the day before but for some reason it wont work either so this is my last hope.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.

Click the Scan for Vundo button.

Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.

You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.

hi vop this i have used the vundo remover its really good it has found about 6 vundos and i have removed them , it seems that my laptop is reseting ok now Although when i came back onto the desktop a pop up came up saying i have malware its the spyware though. but heres my log file thingey

Install Options:

• Don't install any Toolbars, or other programs, should it ask you!
• Just uncheck the option of installing the Yahoo toolbar.

It will put a shortcut on your Desktop.

Do not run CCleaner until requested later.

CLICK ’FIX CHECKED’ with HijackThis.



HIDDEN FILES: To make sure you can see all hidden files, please follow the directions here

SAFEMODE: Boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key at restart and choosing 'safe mode' menu option (explained here if needed).



Delete TEMPORARY FILES: Now, use CCleaner to hunt down the most common temporary file locations and the temporary file clutter contained therein (and of possible malware hiding places):

Run CCleaner .

FIRST-TIME USE:
Select the ‘Options’ BUTTON option (top LEFT), ‘Advanced’ BUTTON, and then UNCHECK the ‘Only delete files in Windows Temp Folders older than 48 hours’.

Select the ‘Cleaner’ BUTTON option (top LEFT), if not already selected. Use the ’Windows’ TAB up front by default.

• Uncheck ‘Cookies’ option (advisable)
• Optionally, Uncheck ‘Recently Typed URLs’ option (potentially still useful)
• Click the ‘Analyse’ button.
• Thereafter, click ‘Run Cleaner’ after you have reviewed what it proposes to clean.

***** Clean out the Recycle Bin for items removed below, ONLY once you have regained the full functional use of your PC.




Navigate to these files or folders using Windows Explorer (OR Start -> Search) and delete (if present):
