Question My internet is soooooo slow....

    I have this problem:
My homepage on the internet was hijacked by eprotectpage.com, and I solved the issue. But now, my pages download really slow, and I can't download videos or anything else as fast as I did before. Even my windows media player acts up when I put in a disc that plays video; it freezes up after about five minutes. But on top of all that, my computer itself runs fine, and my internet connection gives me no problems. Do I have a virus or something? Any kinds of suggestions would help....

I was told to give my hijackthis log so here it is...

You are not running HijackThis (HJT) from a desired location. You really need to setup a dedicated folder for HJT items – to avoid horrible clutter and/or potential lost backup issues.

It's best that the HijackThis tool NOT be located in its current location (particularly on your Desktop or in a TEMP folder). This way you can more easily undo any changes if something goes wrong.
    • Create a new folder in your C: Drive.
    • Name the FOLDER HijackThis (or HJT) such as C:\Program Files\HijackThis or C:\HJT and move the HijackThis.exe file into it.
    • Run HJT from there (and revise your shortcut accordingly).

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
    http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/file...Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure ’Run fixit’ is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads, post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log in the forum please.

    POSSIBLE EORROR MSG:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\AUTOEXEC.NT not there

You are missing a file which is preventing you from running the wareoutfix tool.

Go to the link below and select your operating system and click the link on that site and follow instructions for obtaining the missing file and try the wareoutfix tool again please.

    fixautont.html: http://www.tech-forums.net/computer/topic/29806.html
Edit: LonnyRJones has pointed out that some users may have Internet connection problems associated with WareOut. If so, the following canned speeches often address them. Note that not all systems even have these settings, while some connection services will require them.

    For Windows 2K/XP
    • Please go to Start -> Control Panel, and choose Network Connections.
    • Then right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and left click on properties.
    • Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically.
    • Click OK twice, and restart your computer.

Ok, I did the fixware section and didn't get any error messages. Here is what I have with the report and the new hijackthis from the C folder.

Investigate the following FILES at the following site for their immediate feedback and post it back here - http://www.virustotal.com :

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CSFPY.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMETF.EXE

We will be restarting into Safe Mode later on in the fix and you might not be able to access the Internet. Accordingly, it is probably a good idea to print out the following directions or copy them to a text file on your desktop using NOTEPAD. Read these instructions carefully and feel free to ask if you're unsure about anything.

SELECT HijackThis FIX ITEMS: Scan with HijackThis and place a check next to these items:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page_bak = http://www.iwantsearch.com

O8 - Extra context menu item: Send Image to Phone - http://www.freeringers.net/ezimage.php

    O16 - DPF: {2B96D5CC-C5B5-49A5-A69D-CC0A30F9028C} (MiniBugTransporterX Class) - http://wdownload.weatherbug.com/mini...ansporter.cab?

Make sure that all browser windows and internet links are closed, even this one!
    CLICK ’FIX CHECKED’ with HijackThis.

HIDDEN FILES: To make sure you can see all hidden files, please follow the directions here

SAFEMODE: Boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key at restart and choosing 'safe mode' menu option (explained here if needed).

Delete TEMPORARY FILES: Now, use CCleaner to hunt down the most common temporary file locations and the temporary file clutter contained therein (and of possible malware hiding places):

    Run CCleaner .

    FIRST-TIME USE:
Select the ‘Options’ BUTTON option (top LEFT), ‘Advanced’ BUTTON, and then UNCHECK the ‘Only delete files in Windows Temp Folders older than 48 hours’.

Select the ‘Cleaner’ BUTTON option (top LEFT), if not already selected. Use the ’Windows’ TAB up front by default.
    • Uncheck ‘Cookies’ option (advisable)
    • Optionally, Uncheck ‘Recently Typed URLs’ option (potentially still useful)

    • Click the ‘Analyse’ button.
    • Thereafter, click ‘Run Cleaner’ after you have reviewed what it proposes to clean.

***** Clean out the Recycle Bin for items removed below, ONLY once you have regained the full functional use of your PC.

POST A REVISED HIJACKTHIS LOG for review:
Reboot and post a new HijackThis log with any feedback as appropriate - how things are now behaving: any new or remaining apparent issues.

Here is what I have from the virustotal scan. I followed all of the directions properly. The internet is running a little bit slower, it may be because of the traffic or internet users since it is Friday night, I am not sure at the moment. I will post a future thread to evaluate progress.

Delete the following FILE in SAFE MODE, if necessary:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\{FA6CC58A-E7F1-4FB3-91C5-461A0B40A981}.exe

Was there any available feedback on the other three (3) files?

We will be restarting into Safe Mode later on in the fix and you might not be able to access the Internet. Accordingly, it is probably a good idea to print out the following directions or copy them to a text file on your desktop using NOTEPAD. Read these instructions carefully and feel free to ask if you're unsure about anything.

Download and install AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 (AVG AS - formally known as Ewido anti-spyware 4.0 - uninstall any previous version first).
    • Click the Download BUTTON. On the next page click the Download now BUTTON.
    • Save and then install (Run) from the save location.
    • Open/Run AVG Anti-Spyware
    • Wait a few moments and AVG Anti-Spyware should Auto update itself (note date of last update). If it doesn't update, click the update ICON at top of screen:

    • Click on the Update now LINK at the top of the window
      • Click on the Start update button
      • Wait for the update to download and install
  8. This is very important to get the LATEST updates.
  9. Click on the Status ICON
    • Under "Your computers Security"
Click change status on Resident shield to inactive (ONLY consider activation of that feature once you are clean)
  10. Click on the Scanner ICON at the top of the window
  11. Click on the Settings tab then select Recommended Actions and choose Quarantine
  12. When updating has finished. Close AVG Anti-Spyware.

  13. We will be using this tool in a later step.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
    • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
    • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
    • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
    • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
    • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
    • Login on your usual account.
    ______________________________

Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start AVG Anti-Spyware , and run a full scan:
    • Click on the default Status ICON and select the Scan now LINK.

      OR

    • Click on the Scanner ICON . Select the Scan TAB.

      • Select Complete System Scan. AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin to scan your system.

    • If AVG Anti-Spyware finds anything it will list them in the Preview WINDOW:
      • Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine, if not click on the link and choose Quarantine from the popup menu.
      • Select Apply all actions at the bottom of the window (and the items found will be quarantined – and recoverable, if any items are needed back).

    • When the scan has completed, click on the Save Scan Report button and save the scan to your Desktop where it can be easily found.
    • Copy and paste the AVG Anti-Spyware scan results into your next post.
    • Close AVG Anti-Spyware.

REBOOT. Let us know how your PC is now behaving – any changes in behavior.

I ran the AVG scan, and I didn't have any threats at all. Here are the results from the other 3 files. I sent them to virustotal the first time, but it only sent one back. So I just sent them 3 separate attatchments in 3 different messages, and here are the results...

The computer is doing a better, it is now playing videos, but taking a time to load still...it never did all of that before, I could just click and it would be instantly playable. Hope all of this helps so I can be back to normal!!!

Delete the following infected files in SAFE MODE, if necessary:

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CSFPY.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMETF.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMGZT.EXE

Do a clean boot and run fixwareout again to verify that nothing has returned.

Completed the fixwareout scan. I just wanted to post this hijackthis log to make sure my computer is still ok. My clips still run slow, they won't run from time to time after i click on them and windows media player 11 pops up. This problem didn't happen when i had the old media player, 10. Is there any way you can help me fix this? I am asking, not assuming all is well. Did I hit something wrong, or do I need to fix defaults? Please advise.
