    Welcome,

Have you done scans with spybot and adaware?

To clean your temp folder, recycle bin, etc..please download this free tool:

    CCleaner

Don't install any Toolbars, or other programs, should it ask you!Just uncheck the option of installing the Yahoo toolbar.
It will put a shortcut on your Desktop.

    Uncheck cookies

    Before first use:
    Select Options then Advanced.
UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"

Click on CCleaner to start it. Then click "Run Cleaner", just use the windows tab up front by default.

    Then Reboot (Exit)

Sometimes malware will hide from hjackthis.exe so I would like for you to find hijackthis.exe and right click on it and then click on rename and rename hijackthis.exe to "foolyou.exe" without the quotes and then press enter and post a new log from the newly named program.

    Also...

    Open Hijackthis.(foolyou.exe)

Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.

Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.

    Click the "Save list..." Button.

Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

    Neal,

    Thanks for your response.

I do have adaware and spybot and have used them.

    I installed and ran CCleaner.

Below is the most recent HJT (renamed) scan loglog and the uninstall list.

And, how do I get rid of these little round icons that occassionally appear in the text?

    Thanks,

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
    • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
    • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
    • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Plus a new hijackthis log from the renamed version.

    Thanks.

Those little smilie things are there to stay I guess, not sure why that happens but it does.

Your sunjava is out of date and that is the reason you got the vundo trojan, so...

Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
    * Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )

It should have next icon next to it:
    Select it and click Remove.
    * The current version can be downloaded from Sun here: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp Scroll down the page to 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9' and press the 'Download' button. On the new web page, click the 'Accept License Agreement' button. Then select 'Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language' in the Windows Platform area just below the Accept button.

How is your computer behaving now?

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
    Neal,

I deleted and re-installed JAVA. JRE 5.0 Update 10 (update 9 was not on the website.)

Will that be ok or, is there another source for JRE 5/9?

Re how the computer is behaving:

It is better - no popups and I don't engage "stop all internet activity" on ZoneAlarm as I used to do. All of the pop-up ads for virus cleaners are gone.

But - 1. the computer now takes longer to start-up

    2. I received a few "out of memory at line_______" messages

    3. Ebay images are not loading

    4. If multiple Internet windows are open - they will occassionally shut down without a warning.

    5. I just received a e-mail saying my e-mail name/address are being used to send SPAM to a miitary site (see below) HJT log attached also.

    Thanks,
    Bruce
