    Does the PC have some nasties on it?

    Hi

    Can anybody help me with a rather vague problem? My friends pc is essentially not working, most importantly to her the internet! I haven't been able to look at the physical pc yet but the information I do have is this:

    They have an illegal version of Windows XP, which the PC is recognising as illegal
    The internet won't load at all
    The CPU is fluctuating between 10% and 80%
    The PF Usage is over 500
    It runs over 90 processes when initially logged on
    The Macafee seems to have been disabled and won't run

    Does this sound like there are nasties on the PC or could it be to do with the illegal windows version?

    Any help gratefully received as I'm supposed to be fixing this at weekend and would like an idea of what i'm up against!

    Sounds like both issues are likely. Once the operating system has an issue with the validity of your licence increasing difficulties will arise in an effort to force rectification of those issues.



    Be aware that the above instance of illegal software is possibly representative of other software issues on the PC and could become a waste of everyones time and effort to fix. Many spyware fighters will not be prepared to continue to help unless the illegal OS is addressed.
