Hi there, I got a DrWatson error in Windows Explorer earlier and read this could be the source of a virus. I have run adaware and search and destroy and have found nothing. below is my hijackthis log if anyone can see a problem please let me know

also a quick note i just had a windows explorer error and closed windows explorer and it also removged my antivirus from the system tray which was odd (note this also happened with the drwatson error)

Download and then run the following tool in SAFE MODE when requested:

Clean out TEMPORARY FILES:
To clean your temp folder, recycle bin, etc..please download this free tool:

CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/downloadbuilds.asp

Install Options:

• Don't install any Toolbars, or other programs, should it ask you!
• Just uncheck the option of installing the Yahoo toolbar.

It will put a shortcut on your Desktop.

Select the ‘Cleaner’ BUTTON option (top LEFT), if not already selected. Use the ’Windows’ TAB up front by default.

• Uncheck ‘Cookies’ option (advisable)
• Optionally, Uncheck ‘Recently Typed URLs’ option (potentially still useful)
• Click the ‘Analyse’ button.
• Thereafter, click ‘Run Cleaner’ after you have reviewed what it proposes to clean.

HIDDEN FILES: To make sure you can see all hidden files, please follow the directions here

SAFEMODE: Boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key at restart and choosing 'safe mode' menu option (explained here if needed).



SELECT HijackThis FIX ITEMS: Scan with HijackThis and place a check next to these items:

O2 - BHO: CVirtualDNSObj Object - {86C510E9-97EF-4749-914F-0280247BE3A6} - C:\WINDOWS\VirtualDNS.dll

Make sure that all browser windows and internet links are closed, even this one!
CLICK ’FIX CHECKED’ with HijackThis.



Run CCleaner, now.



Navigate to these files or folders using Windows Explorer (OR Start -> Search) and delete (if present):


DELETE FILES:

C:\WINDOWS\VirtualDNS.dll




POST A REVISED HIJACKTHIS LOG for review:
Reboot and post a new HijackThis log with any feedback as appropriate - how things are now behaving: any new or remaining apparent issues.

Hi thanks for your advice - does it have to be in safe mode? Only I try and load safe mode but it hangs on a file called mup.sys preventing me from entering safe mode.
