My homepage has been set to about:blank and is slowing down my computer. I have read some about it on the internet and tried CWS shredder but it keeps coming back. I have also tried to use my adaware program. It gets halfway throught the scan and throws up some kind of error message and them my computer completely shuts off (this program has always worked fine in the past)

I just wanted to add that now every time I shut down my computer something keeps trying to install on my computer.....it say windows installer HP product assistant....every time I click cancel it just keeps trying again. It took me almost an hour to get my internet to connect......please help!

You are not running the latest version of Hijackthis (1.99.1) and thus all useful and relevant available diagnostics may be incomplete.

If possible, download and run the lastest version of HjiacKThis using the following instructions:

Otherwise, note the following for now:

You are not running HijackThis (HJT) from a desired location. You really need to setup a dedicated folder for HJT items – to avoid horrible clutter and/or potential lost backup issues.

It's best that the HijackThis tool NOT be located in its current location (particularly on your Desktop or in a TEMP folder). This way you can more easily undo any changes if something goes wrong.

• Create a new folder in your C: Drive.
• Name the FOLDER HijackThis (or HJT) such as C:\Program Files\HijackThis or C:\HJT and move the HijackThis.exe file into it.
• Run HJT from there (and revise your shortcut accordingly).

I am still having the same issues. When I reboot I am still getting the windows installer HP product assistant window over and over again and I still have about:blank as my homepage. I downloaded the newer version of hijack this and removed what you asked. Here is my new log:

Initially, we can fix the offending 'start' entry in HijackThis (see below).

If you are not using the (bundled?) imaging program, you could also check for an uninstaller in Add/Remove Programs for:

C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging

OR

UNINSTALLER Alternate SEARCH (if needed): Otherwise, you may have to first locate and then try right-clicking on any of the given SEARCH FOLDER items ABOVE and further search (tick include subdirectories) for the following exact text:

*UNIN*.EXE, *UNW*.EXE

This may reveal an uninstaller with label terms such as '...uninstall...EXE', ‘unins000’, or 'unwise.EXE'. Double-click that EXE, if one is found, to remove that particular FOLDER and its contents. Thereafter, check to ensure that the folder is completely gone. Otherwise, consider deleting the folder in question.

It is not now reflected in the HijackThis log. Try going to:

About blank is gone! Thankyou! I am still getting the HP installer popup. I tried what you suggested by fixing it with hijack this but I could not find any of those files you suggested deleting. Since I have never had this problem with HP installer I am wondering why it would all the sudden start now at the same time I aquired about:blank? Could this be some sort of spyware or virus in itself? Here is my new log:
