Problem... that calsp.dll weirdo...
Hi,
It's the first time I have a problem that bad. I've been using Spybot and Ad-aware regularly for a long time, I have a physical firewall (didn't update it in a while, but they're supposed to be effective anyway) and I have all Windows patches as well as an up-to-date version of Norton...
Then I caught some bugs (that pass themselves off as pop-up blockers and install themselves before you can move a finger). I thought I'd cleaned them out and the popups stopped, but I soon realized I didn't receive anything from my LAN anymore... and Norton crashes at startup... bad sign...
After messing around, I disconnected the LAN cable, just in case. Then I went in Spybot, advanced settings, and there were some weird entries having to do with a certain calsp.dll file... I googled... and here I am.
I've been playing the upstairs/downstairs game on both computers (lucky me to have two) to get you a Hijack This log. This was taken after I ran Ad-aware and Spybot and they took off what they could.
(Went back and edited this message after I realized I had an old version of Ad-aware. Scanned again with latest version and latest defs)
Ah, one last thing. Please try to explain the solution one bit at a time. I'm not used to messing around with those bugs and it makes me squeamish :-)
Here it goes. And thanks for the help.

Download LSPFix
Unzip it and run LSPFix.exe.
Put a checkmark in "I know what I am doing".
Select all calsp.dll entries and use the arrows to move them to the Remove column.
Click Finish
Then download the latest version of Hijack This from http://hjt.isecureit.co.uk.
Reboot and post a fresh Hijack This log

Hi,
Good news is Norton doesn't crash at startup anymore. Dare I reconnect the LAN?
Thanks so much for the help. I'm always amazed at how readily people like you help on these kinds of forums.

Well thats a good thing. We'll clean up the leftovers now.
Close all browser windows, restart Hijack This and put a checkmark next to the following entries:

Hi again!
I ran Spybot and Ad-aware while waiting for your answer. They found some browser redirects and vxd stuff.
I still have popups :-( Yesterday they redirected me to "http://http:" so they didn't end up anywhere useful, but today the ended up somewhere... so I caught My Daily Horoscope (and probably some others as well). If I don't open broswer windows I seem to be fine though.
So, here's the new log.

Reason: I removed other things and rescanned

Close all browser windows, restart Hijack This and put a checkmark next to the following entries:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MyDailyHoroscope] C:\PROGRA~1\MYDAIL~1\MYDAIL~1.EXE
Click Fix Checked
Then boot into Safe Mode and ensure that you are showing Hidden Files and Folders.
Delete the following folder:
C:\Program Files\My Daily Horoscope
Then reboot and post a fresh log

Done, but I still have popups. Weird thing is if I unhook the network cable it doesn't even attempt to open broswer windows.
Here's the new log

Thats a clean log, how are things running?
-

Well, I still had popups, but in the end I figured out I'd caught a nasty strain of VX2.
I downloaded two different removal tools that didn't work (including the Ad-aware plugin), and ended up trying a weird procedure (it involved running ad-aware, jotting down the name of the dll it couldn't delete, stopping the rundll in task manager, deleting the offensive dlls and then unplugging the computer while it was running - and when I rebooted Ad-aware was able to get rid of the remaining files!)
I don't know if it's gone for good, and I don't have time to test tonight. But things are looking much better now :-)
I just hope it's VX2 that's causing my problems. But from what I read about it, it seems extremely likely. All symptoms match up with what I'm experiencing.
Thanks again for your help. I don't know how I could have done it without you.
(And yes I did all you said to do in your file about preventing ad/spy/malware - I used to think Ad-aware and Spybot along with good antivirus were enough - not anymore!)
