    Hi nothing has changed I still have all the same symptoms. Slow start ups,a error message before windows will start, the thunk noise when I open a program with the flashing hour glass beside the curser ( every time the hour glass flashes it makes that noise) and finally when you shut it down it goes to a black screen with the curser. You have to hit the button to finish shutting down.

    I am not seeing anything related to malware, let's try a couple more things if nothing shows you should take your computer to a local shop for repairs as this is not a malware problem and that is all I work on.


    We can try a couple more things before I let you go.


    Go here BitDefender and run an online scan with BitDefender (you will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan). When the ActiveX Control has loaded, click on "Click here to scan" and grab a coffee.

    When BitDefender completes the scan, select the "Detected Problems" tab. Click on "Click here to export scan". Save the file as an HTML to your Desktop. Then click on the saved file and allow it to open with your browser. Go to Edit - Select All then copy/paste that log back here. Post back and let us know what it found (post the log).

    Try running this:

    Download http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/winpfind.php

    Extract WinPFind.zip to your c:\ folder.
    Please print these instructions as you will be going into safe mode.
    Reboot your computer into Safe Mode by following the following steps:

    Reboot.
    When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
    Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
    Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode

    Then open c:\WinPFind and double-click on WinPFind.exe. When the program is open, click on the Start Scan button to scart scanning your computer. Be patient as this scan may take a while. When it is done, it will show a log and tell you the scan is completed. Reboot your computer back to normal mode and and post the contents of c:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt
