"itune has encountered a problem and needs to close"

There are no matches for the above in Google - is that the EXACT message or exact string subset thereof? Not much to go on there. Did you first download and then install? Try installing in SAFE MODE.

THere are very specific instructions to follow when installing the iPod software (carefully follow the steps from your manual). Most particularly,

    http://service.real.com/musicstore/s...=iPodRPinstall
Make sure that your iPod is not connected to your computer.
You must Install iTunes first or you will not get a successful install.

First resolve your issues for itunes, and then deal with quicktime.

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
Your remaining 'quicktime' issues do not appear to be malware related but are likely version compatibility issues potentially related to ipod drivers or new relaese bugs.

Suggest you start with the following link, first:

Troubleshooting Quicktime for Windows (particularly uninstall issues):
    http://homepage.mac.com/corrp/trouble/quicktime.html

    Thereafter, try:

There may be more ideas available in your specific 'operating system' forum.
