back for help again (RESOLVED)
you helped me immensely in the past, over a year ago, and now i'm seeing some problems again. Unfortunately, I know that my computer has seen some porn over the last couple weeks, and I'm guessing that's where my problems come from. First thing I noticed was a new taskbar in my internet explorer, which although it has a button labelled "remove taskbar", it simply won't go away. Then I noticed that when doing a google search, rather than send me to the link I click on, it sends me to seemingly random other places. I've just tried running all my scans, AVG, adaware, spybot, but all three of them hang up during the scan. I still have all of the programs you instructed me to get last time (cwshredder, ewido, ccleaner, and killbox), but I apparently don't have hijsck this anymore. I'm going to go get it now, and will post a log here in a few minutes. hope you have the time to help again.
eric
here's the log, I'm not going to pretend to understand much of it, but I think I can see at least a couple problems.

I know I havn't heard from anyone yet, but I wanted to post an update. I was able to run ewido, and it found a few things, and corrected them. I was also able to run a complete scan with avg after this, which found nothing. adaware and spybot still hang. adaware hangs while searching "shared dll's", and spybot hangs while searching "bot number 502 baciami". Also, after running ewido, I restarted, and am now unable to sign on to AIM. It loads into the taskbar, but then hangs, at 99% cpu usage. Please help. I'll post another hjt log, in case anything changed.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply (if unsure of your results).
DO NOT RUN ANY OTHER OPTIONS UNTIL REQUESTED TO.
Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm
If infected files were listed above, please proceed as follows:
STEP # 2 - Cleaning
Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.
Download and install Ewido anti-spyware 4.0 (uninstall any previous version first).- Click the Download BUTTON. On the next page click the Download now BUTTON.
- Save and then install (Run) from the save location.
- Open/Run ewido anti-spyware

- Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
- Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
- Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
- Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
- Login on your usual account.
______________________________
Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.

Ok, I ran that scan, and I believe that it found 2 things, and I should proceed with the rest of your instructions.
I was following your instructions in order, and everything was going pretty much exactly as you said, until I got to the ewido scan in safe mode. It will not complete a scan. The timer will continue to run, but the scanned object counter freezes. I let the timer run for almost 2 hours, just to be sure. I was unable to cancel the scan, or close ewido, I was forced to end task. I did not continue any further with your instructions. I will wait for further instructions from you. Here is the original smitfraud scan, let me know if you need anything else. thank you.

Please proceed with the remaining instructions. The two (2) found items were anticipated as a minimum level of infection due to smitfraud.

Ok, finished the last couple steps, ewido still hangs up, in normal mode, but it did find one thing before it froze. "trojan : pakes". here is the smitfraud log, and a new hjt log.

Lets cleanout your TEMPORARY file areas:
To clean your temp folder, recycle bin, etc..please download this free tool:
CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/downloadbuilds.asp
Install Options: - [Don't install any Toolbars, or other programs, should it ask you!
- Just uncheck the option of installing the Yahoo toolbar.
It will put a shortcut on your Desktop.
Select the ‘Cleaner’ BUTTON option (top LEFT), if not already selected. Use the ’Windows’ TAB up front by default.- Uncheck ‘Cookies’ option (advisable)
- Optionally, Uncheck ‘Recently Typed URLs’ option (potentially still useful)
- Click the ‘Analyse’ button.
- Thereafter, click ‘Run Cleaner’ after you have reviewed what it proposes to clean.
Please do an online scan (scan only tool) with Kaspersky WebScanner
[Internet Explorer required]
Go to Kaspersky website: www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner and click on the Kaspersky Online Scanner BUTTON/BOX.
You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.- The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
- Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
- Now click on Scan Settings
- In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
- Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
- Extended (if available otherwise Standard) - Scan Options:
- Scan Archives
- Scan Mail Bases
- Click OK
- Now under select a target to scan:
- This program will start and scan your system.
- The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
- Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
- Now click on the Save as Text button:
- Save the file to your desktop.
- Copy and paste that information in your next post.
See if the following scan will run:
[Internet Explorer required]
Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop (FREE Version is mostly a scan only tool) .
Run the Panda ActiveScan shortcut.
- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post a Panda log back here, if anything is reported.
Consider fixing all four (4) HJT items mentioned above if nothing is identified in Kaspersky or Panda scans. Otherwise, we can deal with those scans first.
-
ok, that searchtoolbar entry will not go away. I got rid of the others you listed also. I already had ccleaner, from the last time you guys helped me out (a long time ago). It will not run. It starts, and goes for approx 10 seconds, then just closes itself. the kaspersky scanner also does not work. it starts, and runs for a few minutes, and then all my browser windows just close. The panda scan did work, and found a couple things, although i think 2 of them are not a problem. anyway, here's what it found.

- SpywareBlaster's "Enable all protection" feature will have to be re-enabled
- IE-SPYADS will have to be reinstalled

well, i'm working on your last set of instructions, but the spysweeper seems to be having a hard time. I havn't closed it, it still seems to be running, it's just very very slow. I opened task manager, and wrssskd.exe is using 100% cpu, and the cpu time is at 2 hours 28 minutes, and counting. It is still in the registry items category, and it seems to be only going at about 1 item every 5-10 minutes. Is this normal? I hope I havn't messed it up by opening this browser window, but it just doesn't seem like it's going right to me. I'm going to let it keep running, while I go out and run a couple errands. If it's still running when I get home, I'll check back here for a response. thank you.
