    WinpCap - Issues on XP-trojans?

    Hello..
    *
Issue is: I am trying to install WinPcap and my system is telling me that I already have it .
I know I do not have it in my system..
I am trying to run URL Snooper . It instalkls correctly but does not run because it keeps telling me that I need WinPCap..When trying to get WinpCap, I keep getting the message that it is already installed...
I may have some spyware-adware somewhere misreading the info.
Below is my latest HJT log..Please review and see if any adware/malware I need to delete in order to get WinPcap in my system...Thanks sooo much

Have your tried reviewing the WinPcap FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions to assist you in troubleshooting your issues:

Yes..I have looked at the FAQ on Wincap...
I keep getting the same error : that I have wincap installed when I know I do not.
    *
I can't get URL Snooper to run properly without winpcap...
Winpcap is not in my "add/remove program" nor in any .dll form...And yet, system is telling me it is there somewhere..but can'tfind it.

This is what I got from the FAQs at Winpcap:
"To be absolutely sure that WinPcap has been installed, please look at your system folder: you should find files called packet.* and wpcap.dll. Please check the file dates: these should be compatible with the WinPcap release dates. We've had reports of trojans or other malware that silently install the WinPcap driver, NPF.sys. If you've been infected by them, you'll probably see the driver file in Windows\System32\Drivers, but no entries in add/remove programs and no dlls."

Please review latest HJT log if any spyware/trojan that would cause a false Winpcap presence.

    Thanks for all the help

Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free (trial) version of Ewido TROJAN scanner

[Developed for Windows 2000 and XP]:

    1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
    1. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.

    2. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.

    3. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack....

    4. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.

    5. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to this thread.
Note: Ewido is a free trial product for 14 days. Since Ewido is a trial version, the realtime guard and automatic update will stop functioning after 14 days. We are not installing the guard because it might interfere with the cleanup or the malware removal process. You can use Ewido as an on-demand scanner (recommended) but you will have to manually update the definition file each time you scan. If you decide to purchase Ewido, you can enable the 'Realtime Protect' and 'Automatic Update' functions by clicking on the 'Status' bar (Top left) and clicking on both items under "Your Security Status".

    REBOOT.

Please review latest HJT log if any spyware/trojan that would cause a false Winpcap presence.
Please post a Hijackthis log as per the following instructions:

There is nothing of concern evident in your HijackThis log.

Have your issues been resolved or are they still there?

You also have remaining housekepping issues:

    C:\DOCUME~1\JB\LOCALS~1\Temp\Rar$EX00.985\HijackTh is.exe
You are not running HijackThis (HJT) from a desired location. You really need to setup a dedicated folder for HJT items – to avoid horrible clutter and/or potential lost backup issues.

It's best that the HijackThis tool NOT be located in its current location (particularly on your Desktop or in a TEMP folder). This way you can more easily undo any changes if something goes wrong.
    • Create a new folder in your C: Drive.
    • Name the FOLDER HijackThis (or HJT) such as C:\Program Files\HijackThis or C:\HJT and move the HijackThis.exe file into it.
    • Run HJT from there (and revise your shortcut accordingly).

For the life of me, I can't figure this thing out.
I am trying to install URL Snooper from www.donationcoder.com
It installs it fine..However, when it gets to install the Winpcap application, my computer rejects it by saying that it's already been installed...
I can't find it installed anywhere in my PC...

    Please help

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
There are several issues to consider in your troubleshooting:
    1. Hidden files - can you find the supposedly installed file?
    2. Installation may require use of an administrator account.
    3. Installation interference from antivirus and/or anti-malware tools.

HIDDEN FILES: To make sure you can see all hidden files, please follow the directions here

Try reinstalling in SAFEMODE using an administrator account: Boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key at restart and choosing 'safe mode' menu option (explained here if needed).

Try disconnecting from the Internet - disable or end running processes involving your antivirus and 'Windows Defender'. Try re-installlation.

    OR,
There may still be malware issues as a source of interference:

    http://www.webroot.com/consumer/prod...de=af1&rc=3597
    OR
    http://www.webroot.com/shoppingcart/...php?bjpc=64011

    • Click the Free Trial link to download the program.
    • Double-click the file to install it as follows:
      • Click "Next", read the agreement, Click "Next"
      • Choose "Custom" click "Next".
      • Leave the default installation directory as it is, then click "Next".
      • UNcheck "Run SpySweeper at Windows Startup" and "Add Sweep for Spyware to Windows Explorer Context Menu". Click "Next".
      • On the following screen you can leave the e-mail address field blank, if you wish. Click "Next".
      • Finally, click "Install"
    • Once the program is installed, it will open.
    • It will prompt you to update to the latest definitions, click Yes.

Once the definitions are installed, click Options on the left side.
      Click the Sweep Options tab.
Under What to Sweep please put a check next to the following:
      • Sweep Memory
      • Sweep Registry
      • Sweep Cookies
      • Sweep All User Accounts
      • Enable Direct Disk Sweeping
      • Sweep Contents of Compressed Files
      • Sweep for Rootkits
      • Please UNCHECK Do not Sweep System Restore Folder.

      Disable SpySweeper Shields
      • Click Shields on the left.
      • Click Internet Explorer and uncheck all items.
      • Click Windows System and uncheck all items.
      • Click Startup Programs and uncheck all items.
    • Once the definitions are installed and shields disabled, click Sweep Now on the left side.
    • Click the Start button.
    • When it's done scanning, click the Next button.
    • Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button.
    • It will remove all of the items found.
    • Click Session Log in the upper right corner, copy everything in that window.
    • Click the Summary tab and click Finish.
    • Paste the contents of the session log you copied into your next reply.

Post the SpySweeper session log here .
