    E.mail worm(RESOLVED)

    Hello,

For the first time ever while sending an e-mail an A2 hijack window popped up saying saying I had a posible mass e-mail worm, I couldn't get it all but think it ended in msin.exe.

This may sound daft but how do I check for an e-mail worm, is it simply a case of running AVG.

Hello Neal thankyou for your reply, there is something I don't understand.

I did a complete malware/virus check as suggested in your response in safe mode, disconected from the net and system restore off, nothing was found.

Back to desktop I then connected back up to the internet and ran A Squared Start Centre, clicked option 3 from the top, clicked analyze and it came back with a report saying some things needed my attention.

According to this report My PC is riddled with these

    DLOADER-YI
    GAOBOT.ZX or GAOBOT.ADV WORMS!
    CHODE-J WORM!
    CHODE-J WORM!
    Ctfmon32 parasite
    RAIDYS TROJAN!
    SPYHOAX-A TROJAN
    ctfmon.exe
    SMALL-EW TROJAN!
    DLOADER-LN
    ZLOB-C o ZLOBDROP-C
    ZHOPA TROJAN!
    AGOBOT-NL WORM!
    ZLOB.B TROJAN!
    HOSTBANK-A TROJAN!
    SDBOT-ZB WORM!

Or am I misunderstanding what I'm reading.

I ran the Norton removal tool for GAOBOT.ZX only as the report sugested but it found nothing.

Am I infected with any of these or not.

I don't see anything in your log. Is A2 not removeing this stuff?

Do this and post logs from both scanners please.

Please download, install, and update the NEW free version of Ewido trojan scanner:

When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.

From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.

After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")

Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.

If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged), select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections". If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.

When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.

Post the log Ewido makes back here please and a new hijackthis log. Thanks.

Go here BitDefender and run an online scan with BitDefender (you will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan). When the ActiveX Control has loaded, click on "Click here to scan" and grab a coffee.

When BitDefender completes the scan, select the "Detected Problems" tab. Click on "Click here to export scan". Save the file as an HTML to your Desktop. Then click on the saved file and allow it to open with your browser. Go to Edit - Select All then copy/paste that log back here. Post back and let us know what it found (post the log).

And post a new HJT log also..

    OK great,

Now let's see what kaspersky has to say:

    http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

    Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

    * The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
    * Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
    * Now click on Scan Settings
    * In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    - Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    o Scan Options:
    - Scan Archives
    - Scan Mail Bases

    * Click OK
*Now under select a target to scan:
    o Select My Computer
    * This program will start and scan your system.
    * The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
    * Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
o Now click on the Save as Text button:
    * Save the file to your desktop.
    * Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Plus a new hijackthis log. Thanks.

    Hello Neal,

After doing the last scan, I ran A Squared Start Centre again, clicked option 3 from the top, clicked analyze and again it came back with the report saying some things needed my attention.

I've enclosed this report, I 've had to tidy it up, I sure hope you can make sence of it, it took me one heck of a long time to do it.

I know you have yet to look and come back to me on the scans and I won't panic yet untill you tell me to.

So here is what A square is saying.

BTW the / are my own and were not in the orignal report.

    STATUS
"Y" - Normally leave to run at start-up
"N" - Not required - typically infrequently used tasks that can be started manually if necessary
    "U" - User's choice - depends whether a user deems it necessary
"X" - Definitely not required - typically viruses, spyware, adware and "resource hogs"
    "?" - Unknown

System Tray icon used to change display settings, change the clock rate and memory speed for nVidia based graphics cards. This is unnecessary since you can easily configure these settings the way you want them in the Display Properties and not have to mess with them again. Also disable the "NVIDIA Driver Helper Service" if enabled as it can cause this entry to be re-enabled on re-boot (note that this service can also cause extreme shutdown delays if enabled - see here)

    Left over reg keys.

How is your computer running now?

You can try running Ewido if you want from safe mode and see if it gets rid of the reg keys or use spysweeper, it is good at doing that. 14 day free trial. Let me know if you want to try spysweeper.
