Problem with Virus/Spyware

Hi,

I recently (possibly rather foolishly), installed Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2.
Since then I seem to have contracted some kind of virus or spyware. Here are the symptoms...

Every time I restart, a program called 'Access Member's Area.exe' appears on my desktop, with an Icon with a woman's face on it, and a new dial-up connection appears called gbdialer.
I have also noticed that I am getting some pop ups called ULWindowSeek and ULWindowURL, or something similar. I don't know if they are connected, but it seems likely!

If you could help me out ASAP, I would be extremely grateful!

Oh, just to add...I scanned for viruses with Norton Internet Security, and for Malware with Ad-Aware SE Personal, and they didn't find anything

Hi,

Your computer is highly infected and IE 7 is a joke in my opinion and has caused lots of problems around.

You currently have a program New.Net on your system that is malware and is seriously compromising your internet connection. The safe removal of this program and restoration of your connection is our prime concern at the moment.

As precautionary measures, please do the following:
1. backup the registry by going to Start>Run> and type ‘regedit’ without the quotes. Then on the file menu choose ‘backup registry’ in Windows 9x and ‘export’ in XP.
2. Download the LSPfix.txt and read the readme file.
3. Download LSPfix.zip or LSPfix.exe
  
  Use this program only if you can not connect to the Internet after removing New(Dot)Net.
---------------------------------------------------------
Follow these steps to remove NewDotNet:
1. Go to Start -> Control Panel.
2. Uninstall NewDotNet (New.Net) from Add/Remove Programs
3. Using Windows Explorer, DELETE This folder and all its content: C:\Program Files\New.Net

If there are problems:(And only if there is a problem)

If there is no uninstall program listed then do the following:
Go to http://www.newdotnet.com/removal.html; scroll down to Procedure 4 and follow the removal instructions.

If you can not connect to the Internet after removing New(Dot)Net, please run the LSP-Fix program downloaded earlier, and click on the "Finish" button.
***To start the LSPfix....Close all windows except LSPfix

Launch LSPfix.zip and install to its own folder, then click on LSPfix.exe. Or click on LSPfix.exe and it will launch the program.

REBOOT your system.
Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Hi.

Before I received your reply, I used System Restore to restore my system to a couple of days ago, when my system was fine.

This certainly seems to have solved the symptoms I mentioned above, but obviously I still had this new.net malware installed, so I followed your instructions above to get rid of it.

Do you think I should uninstall IE7 then?

Erm....that file doesn't seem to exist on my system.
I have enabled hidden and protected system files, but I still can't find it.
There is an ALG.exe but no algchk.exe

I can see it in the HijackThis log though....is this bad?

By the way, that program is in my startup processes in MSCONFIG
(I guess that's what the logfile told you, but I don't fully understand HijackThis logs yet, so just thought I'd mention it in case)

However, it definitely doesn't exist on my system, as I did Start > Run and tried to run it. Got the error message saying the file could not be found....
