Hi and welcome looks like you had some luck in removeing some stuff.

Let's disable spysweeper for the time being it could get in the way. I am going to need you to do a scan with spysweeper soon tho.

    To disable SpySweeper:

    1. Open it click >Options over to the left then >Program Options >Uncheck "load at windows startup".
    2. Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
    3. Uncheck "home page shield".
    4. Uncheck "automatically restore default without notification".

Go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and look for PuritySCAN By OIN, , OIN or similar or Clickspring , click on it and click remove.

If not listed, download and run this uninstaller:
    http://www.outerinfo.com/OiUninstaller.exe

Tutorial for the uninstaller if needed

Reboot when done and delete this folder if found:
    C:\Program Files\PurityScan

    Then...

Please download, install, and update the NEW free version of Ewido trojan scanner:

When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.

From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.

After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")

Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.

If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged), select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections". If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.

When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.

Post the log Ewido makes back here please and a new hijackthis log. Thanks.

Go here http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html and run an online scan with BitDefender (you will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan). When the ActiveX Control has loaded, click on "Click here to scan" and grab a coffee.

When BitDefender completes the scan, select the "Detected Problems" tab. Click on "Click here to export scan". Save the file as an HTML to your Desktop. Then click on the saved file and allow it to open with your browser. Go to Edit - Select All then copy/paste that log back here. Post back and let us know what it found (post the log).

And post a new HJT log also..

    Hi Neal
Thank you for responding. I did as you asked and ran ewido and ran that other program for the purity scan. I did not see the folder purity scan in the program files. Oddly enough, while ewido was running, there appeared to be a file with that name removed though. I removed a few other things i knew were spyware. The ones i was unsure about i left in there as you will see in the logfile below. One other thing i am noticing is that when i boot my computer i see a dos window come up briefly that is running runsrv32.exe. I am not sure if this is related or an entirely separate problem, but any advice on that would help as well. I also had disabled spy sweeper as you instruced. I am running mcafee in the background still however, but you probably saw that from the HJ log file. Incidentally it appears i have v 1.99 for HJ this, but i was wondering if i need to update that.

Any how, here is the ewido scan and that is followed by the HJ log file.

I will run EWido again. I have the bitdefender results below. It did not find anything wrong. I am still getting alot of these windows security center warnings about how my computer has spyware and is getting attacked etc. It also brings up an error message for lsass.exe , code 1073741819 saying it terminated. This is all related to spyware issues i have been having.

I will send the HJ this file soon after i execute ewido again.

i re-ran Ewido again. The log is below. Next is the new hijack this file.

I am still getting windows security center messages in the lower right corner with the yellow triangle and exclamation point in it. They say my computer is running slowly or you are not protected from spyware etc. Also as i said before, when i boot i see the dos window come up running runsrv32.exe. When i go into the processes window via ctrl-laalt delete it immediately is grayed out so i cant stop anything. Also if i RUN msconfig and go to the start up menu to try and uncheck the runsrv32.exe that gets grayed out immediately as well so i cant stop it. I would imagine this is all related to the about:blank issue, but i am not sure. Ok, so here are the logs, where do i go from here to stop this non-sense.

    Thanks,

Go here to learn how to show hidden files/folders:

    http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html#5

    Re-hide after we are done

To clean your temp folder, recycle bin, etc..please download this free tool:

    CCleaner

Don't install any Toolbars, or other programs, should it ask you!Just uncheck the option of installing the Yahoo toolbar.
It will put a shortcut on your Desktop.
Click on CCleaner to start it. Then click "Run Cleaner", just use the windows tab up front by default.

    Then Reboot (Exit)

Run hijackthis and click on scan button and put checks next to these:

I have got a problem. I booted up my computer and went under my comptuter to unhide the files and for some reason it wont let me make the selection. I am not sure why. I can see the window and everything, but i cant change anything in there. I tried going in via safe mode, but it just hangs up and doesnt do anything. I am starting to think somehting is alot more seriously wrong now. Any suggestions?

I managed to get into safe mode ok. However I was only able to delete runsrv32.exe and susp.exe. I could not find that other sb...whatever file. Anyway, those are gone, i
ran hijack this again and it suppossedly deleted all that stuff, but when i rebooted it was back. Also, the only way i could view the hidden files was to tell it to do it in safe mode.
Now i can see the hidden files in normal mode.

Another weird thing that i think i mentioned before is that if i do a RUN MSCONFIG, the moment i select the start up tab , it immediately is grayed out to where i can no longer select anything and turn it off.

Also, this happens when i do a ctrl-alt-delete - the processes tab goes gray and then i cant even exit it. Its like something is taking control of my computer and blocking me from doing anything. Do you know what this is?

    John
