    Welcome to DAl,

OK first thing you need to do is go to microsoft updates and get service pack 1 or we are just spitting in the wind as you will continually become infected. Do not get service pack 2 on an infected computer more troubles will arise that you or I don't want.

Then go to this link below and get an anti-virus program and also get spybot and adaware and run the scans on all those and come back and post a new hijackthis log also. Thanks.

Also delete the copy of hijackthis you have and use the link provided below as it installs Hijackthis to the proper place. thanks.

Also when you come back just copy and paste your log into this thread instead of by code. Thanks.

Well, I finished installing SP1 (not SP1a because there's an error). I did NOT install SP2 (because many times, it screwed over my computer). I did a deep scan with avast! home edition virus scanner as well as winpatrol (and uninstalled winpatrol after the scan). I still have the same problem with FireFox. I uninstalled, deleted all files, then reinstalled, but nothing changed. My HiJackThis log is shown above.

    OK thanks.

To clean your temp folder, recycle bin, etc..please download this free tool:

    CCleaner

Don't install any Toolbars, or other programs, should it ask you!Just uncheck the option of installing the Yahoo toolbar.
It will put a shortcut on your Desktop.
Click on CCleaner to start it. Then click "Run Cleaner", just use the windows tab up front by default.

    Then Reboot (Exit)

Run hijackthis and click on scan button and put checks next to these:

    O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

    O16 - DPF: {41F17733-B041-4099-A042-B518BB6A408C} - http://a1540.g.akamai.net/7/1540/52...meInstaller.exe

Make sure nothing is open but hijackthis and click on "fix checked"

    Then

Please download, install, and update the NEW free version of Ewido trojan scanner:

When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.

From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.

After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")

Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.

If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged), select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections". If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.

When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.

Post the log Ewido makes back here please and a new hijackthis log. Thanks.

I installed all the files that you told me to download and followed the directions, but FireFox is still buggy. My computer is starting to spaz out too because there are too many programs (I only have 11 GB of hard drive, and yes it's a VERY old computer [1998 Dell]), so I've uninstalled everything (exept the SP1) that you mentioned. Is there any other way to fix FireFox?

Sorry, I thought I posted the Ewido Log. Anyways, Mozilla Firefox had a new patch for 1.5.0.4 and the "firefox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" has been fixed. Thanks anyways.
