    Media Player not Working

For the last week or so, WMP has not worked for things that i open directly from internet. I can open music or audio files/videos from my computer, but when i try to open a stream i get an error message. I have installed version 11, gone back to 9, etc.... Can someone pleasse help?

When i click on a stream for media player, my browser shuts down.

Here is the error message I get:

"Windows Media Player has Encountered a Problem and Needs to Close"

    AppName: wmplayer.exe AppVer: 11.0.5358.4827 ModName: wininet.dll
    ModVer: 6.0.2900.2861 Offset: 00079383

    Thanks,
    Brandon

It may be advisable to download and install a fresh copy of wininet.dll:

Thank you for the help. I downloaded the new wininet.dll file onto my desktop. I try to extract it to the C:\Windows\System32 folder to replace and it does see the old .dll file but this is what it keeps tellingme........

"the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"

I closed all programs and tried it and even re-booted and tried. I also tried going into the system32 folder and deleting the first file but it won't let me.

    What should i try next?

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
Looks like wininet.dll is alive a well and is being protected by the system.
