Apologies if I haven't posted in the correct forum - I couldn't decide on this or Hardware Issues...

I'm using Windows 2000, have Symantec Antivirus installed and Kerio firewall as well as Spyblaster and Spybot S&D = all have the up-to-date definitions and I do run weekly scans!

For the past couple of days, when I've gone to access files off my clip drive, a window has popped up telling me explorer.exe has encountered a problem and will shut down, then my desktop disappears... I usually click "restore active desktop" as I don't know what I should be doing. It's been somewhat frustrating as I haven't been able to access the clip drive reliably.

I was going to post, to see if I should be worring about this, anyway, I've just gone to get some files off my clip drive and Symantec has thrown up a warning, telling me the threat "trojan.webus" could not be quarantined or cleaned and has been deleted.

I'm hoping it's obvious to you all that I am very much a newbie, and that you will bear with me on this one, but does this mean I have a problem?

I've only ever run a Hijack this on my C drive - do I need to do it on my clip drive too and also, I'm guessing that all of that weekly stuff I do should be done on my clip drive too? No, I haven't been doing anything on my clip drive.

I am very diligent about weekly spyware and virus scans and I always check for updates before I scan. My last HJT log was performed a few weeks ago, please advise if I should be completing that weekly as well. I probably do one every couple of months.

I tried deleting some of the O4 entries from my last HJT log but I got error messages about registry values, so I left them there (even though I think they probably slow up my boot up).

I am WORRIED about O4 - [internat.exe] internat.exe.... am I right to be concerned? This is something new since my last HJT log. As for everything else on here - I only really know about the start-up apps, so the rest I don't know how to interpret.

My main concern is my clip drive. I know it's easy to isolate that, and, if worse comes to worse I just get a new one, but should I be doing something to protect it????

It's probably worth mentioning too that I have had problems shutting down. I get an error message about a program not responding (Card Reader - and I have no card reader plugged in), it asks me do I want to end now, so I click end now and it tells me it can't! I sometimes have to shut down without closing windows as the system is hanging.

That internat.exe could be good or bad. The bad one runs directly from the Windows folder, the good one runs from the system32 folder.



Please download, install, and update the NEW free version of Ewido trojan scanner:

When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.

From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.

After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")

Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.

If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged), select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections". If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.

When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.

Post the log Ewido makes back here please and a new hijackthis log. Thanks.

Your log is clean and the internat.exe is the good one. Maybe your clip drive is bad might consider getting another one like you said.


Let's do these two things and see what these programs find:







Please download WebRoot SpySweeper from HERE (It's a 14-day trial):

* Click Download Now to download the program.
* Install it. Once the program is installed, it will open.
* It will prompt you to update to the latest definitions, click Yes.
* Once the definitions are installed, click Options on the left side.
* Click the Sweep Options tab.
* Under What to Sweep please put a check next to the following:
o Sweep Memory
o Sweep Registry
o Sweep Cookies
o Sweep All User Accounts
o Enable Direct Disk Sweeping
o Sweep Contents of Compressed Files
o Sweep for Rootkits
o Please UNCHECK Do not Sweep System Restore Folder.

* Click Sweep Now on the left side.
* Click the Start button.
* When it's done scanning, click the Next button.
* Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button.
* It will remove all of the items found.
* Click Session Log in the upper right corner, copy everything in that window.
* Click the Summary tab and click Finish.
* Paste the contents of the session log you copied into your next reply along with a fresh HJT log.


Then after Spysweeper do this scanner which does not remove anything but identifies problems if they are there related to malware.

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
- Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
o Scan Options:
- Scan Archives
- Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
*Now under select a target to scan:
o Select My Computer
* This program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
o Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.
* Copy and paste that information in your next post.

I have done as you said, Kaspersky found 3 quarantined viruses! Glad to see Symantec is doing the job.

First, the WebRoot log

I think it's probably worth mentioning, since I last posted, I have changed ISP from BT to Pipex. I was (and still am) getting broadband connection problems, such as not being able to log on, the connection dropping - all this seems to be worse since I switched to Pipex (although they are attemtping to resolve the issues, more than BT ever did!).
