Question Can this be speeded up?

While my PC is in having a memory upgrade (and various other little jobs) I thought I'd turn my attention to my son's PC. It's my old PC and is running SUPER slow.

He doesn't connect to the internet with it, but I will use this as a back-up PC when mine is out of action, thus the reason for having the firewall, anti-virus & broadband settings on it.

He uses it for his gaming. Now he's 5 yrs old so let's get gaming into context..... we're talking Jay Jay the Jet Plane! This is the game which uses the most resources; min system requirements are 266mhz pentium processor, 8x cd rom drive, 64mb ram, 256 col/800x600/16-bit display.

I have managed to delete as many superfluous start-up progs as poss, I've run ccleaner, I've defragged and I think this is as fast as I can get it?

I'm not in a position to get a new PC right now. His b'day is in August and I could possibly get him a new one then, for example, an entry level Dell, i.e. Dell Dimension 1100 (£299 incl del & VAT). But, in the meantime, is it worth investing a bit of money getting him some extra ram? Or is there anything else I can do to get this running just a bit faster?

    Many thanks for your suggestions/comments.

    Cheers Jane

There are no obvious issues in your HijackThis log.

128MB memory is barely enough to load the XP operating system (OS) - never mind to do any real heavy processing. The game specs appear to be initially for a WIN9x OS. Often, a 266MHZ minimum requirement might be only barely ADEQUATE in that environment anyway - however, your current 400MHZ PC has a lot more to do under XP.

More RAM memory could theoretically help (say to a minimum 512MB, if possible and cost effective) but your processor is probably not really adequate for many XP based gaming scenarios. Just an educated guess.
