Re: programs not responding, hjt log

OK, let's clean the junk off your computer:

To clean your temp folder, recycle bin, etc..please download this free tool:

    CCleaner

Don't install any Toolbars, or other programs, should it ask you!Just uncheck the option of installing the Yahoo toolbar.
It will put a shortcut on your Desktop.
Click on CCleaner to start it. Then click "Run Cleaner", just use the windows tab up front by default.

    Then Reboot (Exit)

    How is she behaving now?

    Hi,

Also, is Avast better than AVG-free? Only reason I ask is that Avast found Win32.CTX while panda didn't nor Avg.

    Hi,
Seems to be doing ok. I seem to pick up a lot of tracking cookies, but what I'm worried about is Win32.ctx. Is this anything to worry about. I put it in the virus chest. The programs seem to be working ok. I'll do hjt and ewido logs tomorrow. Any idea how to delete the ones in this recycler folder, so it won't keep showing these? Thanks.

I think I'll keep the avast also. Thanks for everything. So, I'll get rid of avg and the panda scanner and kaspersky. It looks like I still have remnants of symantecs stuff so I get rid of that again also.

If the Giant thing you have a spyware program uninstall that also as you have windows defender now, basically the same program.

Sun Java is out of date which makes it a security risk:

    Updating Java:

    * Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
    * Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
It should have next icon next to it: looks like a coffe cup
    Select it and click Remove.
    * Then Download and install the newest version from here:
    http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

That is one of the bugaboos about Avast it flags definition files from Panda as bad and it is not bad. Nothing to worry about there.

To delete those, hilite the file and under program-file etc. are some icons put your mouse on it and find delete file and delete.

    Hi,
Here's a new HJT log. I do seem to still have a problem. For some reason, I couldn't uninstall Java 5.0update 1 through add/remove programs. I had to do it by deleting the folder in program files. But I did update to 6. Also for some reason, microsoft auto updates keeps trying to install the latest Window defender update and after numerous installs(successful, i might add) the little icon pops up again. Is this a microsoft problem? Anyway, here's the log:

    Thanks

    Hi,
I had systemworks 2005, I have removed it but it seems there is still traces running around. I still have folders: Nprotect and Recycler. Could it be because I removed Norton that I can't clear these? Do you know of any workarounds? This is where the majority of the malware is sitting. I thank you for helping me clean this thing. Have a good day.
