Hi,
Does any one know if there is a virus that could affect a system resulting in a PC moniter going to a black-blank screen.
By pressing the on/off on the TFT it will quickly show the desktop then go back to the blank screen.
I have in the last couple of days done a complete system check for bugs and so on and nothing to serious was revealed.
This problem started yesterday evening, so what do you think, bugs or a faulty TFT or its adapter/transformer.
I know for sure it's not the graphics card/

Does that mean that you can hook up your PC to another monitor with no problems?I have in the last couple of days done a complete system check for bugs and so on and nothing to serious was revealed.
The easiest way to troubleshoot is to hook up that monitor to another PC and see what happens.bugs or a faulty TFT or its adapter/transformer.
A relative had a very similar problem recently. The on/off on the TFT would 'quickly show the desktop then go back to the blank screen'. That would suggest to me that the power supply is functional.
It was under warranty and the manufacturer made me run through some systematic test procedures (try your makers site or local vendor). We determined that the monitor had died and needed to be replaced.

Hi Vop,
Hooked PC up to CRT moniter with no problems.
I got around to testing the AC adapter on a meter today it appears ok
so I guess your right it's the TFT screen----blast it's still under 20 months old,
( where in hell did I put that receipt ).
The make is a AOC LM720a 17in.
I can't get into AOC Europe site at the moment to find out if this model carries a three year onsite waranty, if not I will have to argue my points with Savastore.
Its been my thing with PCs in the last few weeks, I've had to completely rebuild both of mine, due to M/board fry ups,------a pain.
Thankyou for your reply

OUCH!I've had to completely rebuild both of mine, due to M/board fry ups
Might want to consider an affordable UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) in that case. In my relative's case we also had a router and harddrive fry (the power is somewhat iffy in that house) and modem resetting problems. There have been no further issues since acquiring the UPS.
Normally, you want to get a minimum 500VA rated unit (recommend 650VA - very happy with APC) to catch all those millisecond glitches/surges and to keep those affected devices from resetting, corrupting or frying themselves.
