Have you done and run the READ FIRST PROCEDURES found here. Post a HijackThis log only after ALL suggested scans are done (including Ewido and Kaspersky below):

    http://www.d-a-l.com/help/showthread.php?t=32403

In addition, run the following scans:

Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free (trial) version of Ewido trojan scanner
[Developed for Windows 2000 and XP]:
    1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
    2. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
    3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
    4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack....
    5. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
    6. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to this thread.
Note: Ewido is a free trial product for 14 days. Since Ewido is a trial version, the realtime guard and automatic update will stop functioning after 14 days. We are not installing the guard because it might interfere with the cleanup or the malware removal process. You can use Ewido as an on-demand scanner (recommended) but you will have to manually update the definition file each time you scan. If you decide to purchase Ewido, you can enable the 'Realtime Protect' and 'Automatic Update' functions by clicking on the 'Status' bar (Top left) and clicking on both items under "Your Security Status".

    REBOOT.

Please do an online scan (scan only tool) with Kaspersky WebScanner

    [Internet Explorer required]
Go to Kaspersky website: www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner and click on the Kaspersky Online Scanner BUTTON/BOX.

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
    • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
    • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
    • Now click on Scan Settings
    • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
      • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
        - Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
      • Scan Options:
        - Scan Archives
        - Scan Mail Bases
    • Click OK
    • Now under select a target to scan:
      • Select My Computer
    • This program will start and scan your system.
    • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
    • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
      • Now click on the Save as Text button:
    • Save the file to your desktop.
    • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

    REBOOT.

There are no issues showing in your HijackThis log. Your start page iwon.com, might have some subtle problems with it - do you need or use that link? If not, fix as follows:

You are not running HijackThis (HJT) from a desired location. You really need to setup a dedicated folder for HJT items – to avoid horrible clutter and/or potential lost backup issues.

It's best that the HijackThis tool NOT be located in its current location (particularly on your Desktop or in a TEMP folder). This way you can more easily undo any changes if something goes wrong.
    • Create a new folder in your C: Drive.
    • Name the FOLDER HijackThis (or HJT) such as C:\Program Files\HijackThis or C:\HJT and move the HijackThis.exe file into it.
    • Run HJT from there (and revise your shortcut accordingly).

SELECT HijackThis FIX ITEMS: Scan with HijackThis and place a check next to these items:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://my.iwon.com/index.jsp?PG=home&SEC=bnav
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://my.iwon.com/index.jsp?PG=home&SEC=bnav

Make sure that all browser windows and internet links are closed, even this one!
    CLICK ’FIX CHECKED’ with HijackThis.

Kaspersky only reflected existing quarantine items which you can/should remove periodically. Ewido only picked some minor risk cookies.

    As per your Norton Antivirus,
I have also personally had the 'Live update' cease to work despite serious efforts to find a solution. I also know three (3) other users who were also unable to resolve a similar situation. All three have since gone to other products. Strangely, all of us seemed to have the situation in common - an older NAV version no longer being supported.

I am presently using a workaround (til my subscrpition runs out in the fall)- if you would prefer to stick with Norton: you can use their Intelligent Updater and do manual updates. The updater instructions that I found simplest and most useful were Method 3 (for a network administrator). The key instructions are as follows:

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...xpandSection=1

Go to the Symantec virus definitions download page http://securityresponse.symantec.com....download.html .

To start the download, click the first file in the list under Filename. The file name will start with the year and look similar to the following:

    200604205-005-x86.exe (use 'Download Updates' BUTTON).

Here is a focused lnk in case you are able to find the key to fixing your live update issues - just add your version details or version year:

    http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=...e+Search&meta=

After having run SpyBot, Ad-Aware, and an updated NAV scan, are you still having problems with your favorites links? Post a new HojackThis log is changes were made.

If you want, I can provide instructions to completely uninstall NAV in case you might want to try a clean install. But, why bother if it is an older unsupported version?

Thanks for the great help. I think I will not renew with Norton in Sept. I will try the manual updater. Can you suggest a good AntiVirus? Also I'm getting an error with Windows update Error number: 0x8024001D. Don't yell but I think I screwed up and uninstalled Service pack 2. Did I mess up real bad??

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
Also I'm getting an error with Windows update Error number: 0x8024001D.
See how you make out after following the same steps as here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/newsgro...d94738b263&p=1

I plan to use NOD32 as my antivirus (you can try it for 30 days):
    www.nod32.com

Mcafee or Norton aren't particularly bad tools - they are just getting too bloated. Mcafee seems to go into disable mode for no apparent reasons on my wife's and son's laptops - always need to stay alert over that. Kaspersky can be an excellent tool as long as you never have to uninstall it - a top tool except for that possible issue experienced by some.

If you would rather try a free option, consider:

If you are thinking about switching, there are some good free Antivirus programs that are decent, including AVG and Avast!.
    AVG: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
    Avast: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

I have had two (2) experiences with AVG where the auto-update feature would not work reliably (not good for inattentive users). I have no personal experience with AVAST other than the comments from other ASAP sources.
