Hey, for the last few days my internet explorer has been displaying an dns error page. My internet connection in general has also been cut off. I cannot use msn messenger, or any other program that requires an internet connection. Ive tryied running my antivirus software and have gotten rid of all the spyware and adware that it found. However because of the inability to access the internet i have not been able to update my antivirus programs. As a result Ive been using my other computer to try to find a solution to my problem but have had no success. Anyways, i hope someone may be able to help me out. Thanks in advance.

You are not running HijackThis (HJT) from a desired location. You really need to setup a dedicated folder for HJT items – to avoid horrible clutter and potential lost backup issues.

It's best that the HijackThis tool NOT be located in its current location (particularly on your Desktop or in a TEMP folder). This way you can more easily undo any changes if something goes wrong.

Create a new folder in your C: Drive. Name it HJT (or HijackThis) such as C:\Program Files\HJT, C:\HJT and move the HijackThis.exe file in it. Run HJT from there (and revise your shortcut accordingly).





You have acquired the LOP infection often associated with the installation of MESSENGERPLUS3 (with potentially avoidable addons):

Violates Physical Memory Protection. Inspects your email address book. Has a keylogger that can log keystrokes without the user being aware. Changes file type execution. Can survive a PC reboot. Installs other programs. Scans active processes. Modifies the HostsFile which could stop your antivirus or antispyware protection or put your personal information at risk. Can relay data via the internet. Hijacks other processes.

Please uninstall the current version of MESSENGERPLUS3 (Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs).

1) Download lopremover.zip from (another PC if needed) here and save it to your Desktop:

You will need to unzip it to use it.
To do this: Right click on the zipped folder and from the menu that appears, click on Extract All...
In the 'Extraction Wizard' window that opens, click on Next> and in the next window that appears, click on Next> again.
In the final window, click on Finish.
Close the window that appears, as you will not need the file immediately.


Log off from the Internet and disconnect your modem cable for the duration of the fix.

Removal

1) Open the lopremover folder and double click lopremover.exe to run it.
2) Run Lopremover twice, rebooting in between.




POST A REVISED HIJACKTHIS LOG for review:
Reboot and post a new HijackThis log with any feedback as appropriate - how things are now behaving: any new or remaining apparent issues.

SAFEMODE: Boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key at restart and choosing 'safe mode' menu option (explained here if needed).



Delete TEMPORARY FILES: Now, hunt down the most common temporary file locations and the temporary file clutter contained therein (and of possible malware hiding places):

Go to Start > Run and type: CLEANMGR.EXE and hit enter.
When prompted select the C: drive and click ok.
Check the boxes for:

• Temporary Internet Files
• Downloaded Program Files
• Recycle Bin
• Temporary Files

Click OK or Enter


***** Clean out the Recycle Bin for items removed below, ONLY once you have regained the full functional use of your PC.




Navigate to these files or folders using Windows Explorer (OR Start -> Search) and delete (if present):

You could try to 'Add/Remove Programs' for 'Internet Explorer' - and select the 'Repair Internet Explorer' option and see if that solves your issues.

The next easiest way to fix a broken connection chain is to use a freeware utility called LSPFix.exe (182KB):

If you just want to fix a broken chain, and the problem DLL has already been removed for some other reasons, you can just click the Finish button, designated by the green box in Figure 1. LSP-Fix will automatically fix the LSP chain and hopefully restore connectivity back to the network.

Still no luck.

The one thing i couldnt try that you suggested is repairing Internet Explorer in add/remove programs. For some reason it doesnt appear in the list of programs.
