    Hijacked by Security Enhance (RESOLVED)

Well I have been hijacked by Security Enhance and then Spy Falcon 2.0 was downloaded without my knowledge. I have downloaded Spy-bot 1.4, Ad-Aware Personal, CW Shredder and Hijack this. I ran Spy-bot and it found nothing, I then ran Ad-Aware and it found quite a few things which I quarinteened then deleted and now am posting the Hijack This log in hopes you will be able to help me recover the ability to reach my home page again. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Well it seems that you have cleaned the Spy Falcon mess from my computer. I shall post the new Hijack This log, SmitRem log and Ewido log here for you to examine. The only problem I have now is I can,t load the new version of Norton Internet Security 2006, because the cd says microsoft windows installer must be onyour computer, do you want to install it now, then a new pop up shows with the message, setup was unable to update the windows component. If this problem persists contact Microsoft.

    CLEAN!

You really need to setup a dedicated folder for HJT items – to avoid horrible clutter and potential lost backup issues.

It's best that the HijackThis tool NOT be located in its current location (particularly on your Desktop or in a TEMP folder). This way you can more easily undo any changes if something goes wrong.

Create a new folder in your C: Drive. Name it HJT (or HijackThis) such as C:\Program Files\HJT, C:\HJT and move the HijackThis.exe file in it. Run HJT from there (and revise your shortcut accordingly).

Read over the following directions. Ask if anything appears unclear to you.

Download Clean.bat to your desktop: for later use to clean out your TEMPORARY and PREFETCH files.
    http://www.thatcomputerguy.us/downloads/clean.bat

We will be restarting into Safe Mode later on in the fix and you might not be able to access the Internet. Accordingly, it is probably a good idea to print out the following directions or copy them to a text file on your desktop using NOTEPAD. Read these instructions carefully and feel free to ask if you're unsure about anything.

HIDDEN FILES: To make sure you can see all hidden files, please follow the directions here

SAFEMODE: Boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key at restart and choosing 'safe mode' menu option (explained here if needed).

SELECT HijackThis FIX ITEMS: Scan with HijackThis and place a check next to these items:

Make sure that all browser windows and internet links are closed, even this one!
    CLICK ’FIX CHECKED’ with HijackThis.

Delete TEMPORARY FILES: Now, hunt down the most common temporary file locations and the temporary file clutter contained therein (and of possible malware hiding places):

Go to Start > Run and type: CLEANMGR.EXE and hit enter.
When prompted select the C: drive and click ok.
    Check the boxes for:
    • Temporary Internet Files
    • Downloaded Program Files
    • Recycle Bin
    • Temporary Files
    Click OK or Enter

For additional, more thorough cleaning and for multi-profile user configurations:
(*) Run Clean.bat to clean up your TEMPorary files.

***** Clean out the Recycle Bin for items removed below, ONLY once you have regained the full functional use of your PC.

Navigate to these files or folders using Windows Explorer (OR Start -> Search) and delete (if present):

    DELETE FILES:

svxhost.exe (be careful of exact spelling - highlight and copy)

POST A REVISED HIJACKTHIS LOG for review:
Reboot and post a new HijackThis log with any feedback as appropriate - how things are now behaving: any new or remaining apparent issues.

I'll try all the Hijack this fixes but there is not a functioning link to clean.bat. I even went to his site and did a search, still could not find it. Any where else I could look?

Clean.bat is a desirable step not a mandatory step. That link is correct for me.

Carry on with the remaining steps.

I am still getting the same thing as before when trying to install Norton Internet Security 2006, the cd says microsoft windows installer must be onyour computer, do you want to install it now, then a new pop up shows with the message, setup was unable to update the windows component. If this problem persists contact Microsoft.

Many people can often experience horrible malware problems when P2P applications like Kazaa and free screensavers are allowed to run on their PC. That can make you one download away from serious infections.

All your protective measures need to be up-to-date if you want any chance at 'reasonable' PC health. And, you don't even have Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed on your PC. Is there any reason for this - do you have a high-speed connection or not? Please run all 'critical updates' with the exception of SP2.

If necessary, run the following diagnostic scan as an interim measure:

Please do an online scan (scan only tool) with Kaspersky WebScanner

    Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
    • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
    • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
    • Now click on Scan Settings
    • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
      • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
        - Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
      • Scan Options:
        - Scan Archives
        - Scan Mail Bases
    • Click OK
    • Now under select a target to scan:
      • Select My Computer
    • This program will start and scan your system.
    • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
    • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
      • Now click on the Save as Text button:
    • Save the file to your desktop.
    • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Where do all those items keep coming from? I removed them, I thought the first time I ran Hijack This. Do they download each time I get online or did i not remove them. I do not have a high speed connection and I was only able to find the svxhost.exe file in the Hijack This logs when I ran a search from the start button. The reason I don't have the windows updates is because I thought they were automatic downloads and installs, I havetn't been asked by the auto-update to go to Microsoft for upduates in a long time. Guess I'll change that routine and start checking on my own from now on.
