    Pls help check my Hijackthis Log

    Please disable the following application(s), as it/they may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable them after your computer is clean.


    Disable Spyware Doctor
    1. Click the Spyware Doctor icon in the System Tray.
    2. Click Settings.
    3. Click Startup Settings under Pick a Category.
    4. Uncheck Run at Windows startup.
    5. Click Apply and Exit Spyware Doctor.



    Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free (trial) version of Ewido trojan scanner:
    1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
    2. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
    3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
    4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack....
    5. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
    6. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to this thread.


    Post a revised HJT log as well as any items reported by Ewido.

    Did you try and remove AdwareAlert or did you decide to keep it (inadvisable).


    Please do an online scan (scan only tool) with Kaspersky WebScanner

    Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

    You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
    • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
    • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
    • Now click on Scan Settings
    • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
      • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
        - Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
      • Scan Options:
        - Scan Archives
        - Scan Mail Bases
    • Click OK
    • Now under select a target to scan:
      • Select My Computer
    • This program will start and scan your system.
    • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
    • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
      • Now click on the Save as Text button:
    • Save the file to your desktop.
    • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

    Hi VopTop, I have uninstalled AdwareAlert and did the following. There was no report as Kaspersky did not find anything in my computer.

    My current problem is, the computer keep going into sleep mode or simply get hanged, at different stag, at logging into personal account, opeing a web page, opening outlook express, updating norton antivirus files...

    It took me over two hours to complete those that you asked me to do. Any advice?

    Try running the following additional scan:

    Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.


    Run the Panda ActiveScan shortcut.
    - Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
    - A new window will open...click the Check Now button
    - Enter your Country
    - Enter your State/Province
    - Enter your e-mail address and click send
    - Select either Home User or Company
    - Click the big Scan Now button
    - If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
    - It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
    - When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
    - When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.


    Post a Panda log back here, if anything is reported.






    If still no joy, I would suggest that you look at potential hardware issues such as power supply problems, a bad memory module or overheating (if time passage is a variable).

    Your latest Cookies (remove those found file items) are low risk malware items and should not be a factor in your reported issues. We have only found limited consequence malware.



    Again, with the same continuing issues:
    I would suggest that you look at potential hardware issues such as power supply problems, a bad memory module or overheating (if time passage is a variable).


    Potentially, your hard drive might have cross-linked files or bad sectors responsible for your noted issues:


    Go into SAFE MODE (gently tapping the F8 key while rebooting) and run CHKDSK.

    For Windows 2000 and XP, double-click My Computer. Right-click the C-drive and click Properties. Click on the Tools tab and choose to check the computer for problems. Click on Check Now. You will then have two check boxes. The top option is for the file check, and the second option is for the hardware (physical disk) check. Check either one, or both. At least check the top one. Again, if you think you may be having problems with the hard disk itself, then check the second one, as well. And just like the Windows 98 Thorough Scan, this will take quite a bit longer to run, so let it run over night. One thing, though: For Windows 2000 and XP, you won’t be able to run the check right then. After clicking the Start button (once the check boxes are checked), you will need to reboot to run the disk check. It will ask you if you want the system to run the CHKDSK on reboot. Choose Yes and reboot. Just before getting back into Windows, the system will do its CHKDSK, and depending on which options you chose, will take either a few minutes, and sometimes up to an hour or so, to run. Let it run.


    It may be necessary to run CHKDSK more than once if problems are found. The first pass may only repair or restore bad sectors. The next scan might need to delete (orphaned?) file or index entries.

    Hi, VopThis,
    I have run chkdsk four time in total, but problem still persists. Sometimes it seem quite ok, but after a few days, it gets back to the same though not as bad as in the beginning.

    What can I do if this is harddisk problem. I don't think it is due to power supply.

    Did those scans find and fix errors on your hard drive? Did such errors continue on different scans? If you have a failing drive you need to act sooner rather than later. If so, you need to consult a local repair shop and/or acquire a HD update kit to copy your current drive contents to a brand new drive.



    Alternatively,
    Might want to consider a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) as a possible resolution. Had a client whose modem and router kept resetting themselves even though there was no noticeable power problem with the PC. Suptle power problems can be hard to detect.

    By testing a UPS plugged into two (determined to be) faulty wall outlets, we were able to prove that those devices we getting dropped constantly as evidenced by the regularity of the UPS backup cut-in click. Set up a new dedicated wall outlet, as a result, and kept the UPS as well.

    Normally, you want to get a minimum 500VA rated unit (recommend 650VA - very happy with APC) to catch all those millisecond glitches and to keep those affected devices from resetting or corrupting themselves.
