    Re: HiJack this Log please!

No bad guys are showing up.

This may not be a virus related issue but we will keep trying for a little while.

Did you try running silentrunners from safe mode like I suggested?

    Try it.

    Download http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/winpfind.php

Extract WinPFind.zip to your c:\ folder.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then open c:\WinPFind and double-click on WinPFind.exe. When the program is open, click on the Start Scan button to scart scanning your computer. Be patient as this scan may take a while. When it is done, it will show a log and tell you the scan is completed. Reboot your computer back to normal mode and and post the contents of c:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt as a reply to this topic.

The one silent runner you told me to try didn't work... I kept getting those weird errors. I can get my husband to try it.. which one was it exactly?

(PS - Even posting this msg. has taken me 15 min. so far... it keeps timing out... )

Here is our log file from bleeping computer...

    Hi,

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

    Please download AproposFix from here:
    http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/aproposfix.exe

Save it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Then please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
    1) Restart your computer
    2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
    3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
    4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click aproposfix.exe and unzip it to the desktop. Open the aproposfix folder on your desktop and run RunThis.bat. Follow the prompts.

When the tool is finished, please reboot back into normal mode, and post a new HijackThis log, along with the entire contents of the log.txt file in the aproposfix folder.

Nothing, I was hoping you had a rootkit infection so we could fix it.

    * Download Find it
    * Unzip the contents of finditnt2000xp.zip to a convenient location.
    * Navigate to the Find It NT-2K-XP folder and double-click on find.bat.
    * A command prompt will open and it will search your computer for malicious files.
    * Once it has finished a Notepad window will pop up with output.txt.
    * Copy the entire contents of output.txt into your next post.
    * DON'T delete/modify any files yet

Thanks Neal, here is the logfile. Also wanted to let you know that we changed antivirus programs and are now using Freedom (from Sympatico) as we were told it 'worked' better with Sympatico ISP, but doesn't seem to be helping the computer at all... also, when I try to upload pics to a site, I keep getting that stupid DNS error telling me to check my browser settings. Anyways.. here' the log file from 'Find It'.

    Hi,

    Go here:--http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

And get the VX2 add-on for your Adaware SE, after installed run the tool by clicking "add-ons". It is on the left hand side of Adaware SE box

Also run Adaware SE from safe mode please as well as SpyBot.

Then let me know if any changes have occured.

Also what does that DNS error say exactly?

    New hijackthis log also please.

Try this virus scanner and post the log it makes also.

    Internet Explorer required
    Also this excellent(BitDefender) scanner:http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

Hi Neal, will do this in the a.m. As for now... Sympatico made us take off SpyBot when we put in their Anti-virus, is it ok to put it back on? Sympatico hasn't helped at all... so i'll do whatever you think is best...

And.. this is the error i'm getting anytime I try to upload any pics to a site or my photobucket account, and even just trying to get to some websites this is popping up all the time... i've done everything it says to do and it doesn't help... it's so frustrating! Also with my MSN messenger, I keep getting booted off and it says it's because of IE's Offline Settings...

    Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting).
Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
Sounds like some agressive settings either with anti-virus or a firewall, try backing off on those settings. Not familiar with sympatio.

May have to send you some where else for help but go ahead and do the Adaware SE and bitdefender and we will go from there.
