Re: problem with locking up etc.
Silentrunners is clean, Ewido killed everything it found, Kaspersky is clean.
Please download the free MWAV antivirus tool from here:
ftp://ftp.microworldsystems.com/download/tools/mwav.exe
Save it to the desktop and run it. Follow the prompts to scan your system for viruses. Then please post for me the log of infected files from the BOTTOM panel of the scan window.
-
i cant connect to that site. is there somewhere else i can get it?
-
Try this:
It is not a site it is a download.
At the bottom right by your clock right click the Kerio firewall icon and disable it and then try to download and when done right click and re-enable.
If that doesn't work try scanning with Panda and BitDefender and Stinger.
Panda and Bitdefender as you know will make logs, post those back if something was found, if you can that is.
Get the stinger here:
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
Download it to another computer if need be, and bring it to the affected computer on floppy disk.
It will kill the top 53 virus files if any are found there
then,
Internet Explorer required
Run these two online virus scanners (Panda Activescan) following these instructions below:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm
Internet Explorer required
Also this excellent(BitDefender) scanner:http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

I still couldnt get the ftp one, but the stinger, panda scan and the other one came out clean!
-
Well it appears your computer is virus free, we will do one more scan looking for a rootkit infection then if that turns up negative then your problems are stemming from needed files etc. being deleted by who ever was fixing your computer.
You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.
Please download AproposFix from here:
http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/aproposfix.exe
Save it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet.
Then please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Once in Safe Mode, please double-click aproposfix.exe and unzip it to the desktop. Open the aproposfix folder on your desktop and run RunThis.bat. Follow the prompts.
When the tool is finished, please reboot back into normal mode, and post a new HijackThis log, along with the entire contents of the log.txt file in the aproposfix folder. Thanks.

good to hear i have no virus, but how do i find out what files are missing? is there any way to recover them?

That scan came up clean, as far as I know the only way to fix this is to reformat and get immediated protection and if something comes up in the way of a virus related issue, get professional help from a forum or a local computer repair place in your town. You might try a system restore the day before the person was fixing your computer and see if that brings things back.
System restore info:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...emrestore.mspx
Good luck and hope you get it all sorted out soon.
