I've got one re - occuring spyware "lop" That ad - aware keeps picking up and deleting, yet it comes back in like 15 minutes. Spybot doesn't even pick up this spyware. I have spyware blaster running in the background... and all imunization turned on. So I'm going to post a hijack this log and see if you guys can help me out. If you can, I would be very grateful. The application Messenger Plus is an add-on. It is not written by Microsoft. It installs spyware, LOP to be exact. Try and see if you can uninstall Messenger Plus via Add\remove Programs, and then if you still want to use it, reinstall it after we have cleaned your computer. Then choose not to install the Sponsor. If you are able to do this, then scan with HJt again in normal mode if possible, and post another log.


& try this after

Download the LOP uninstaller from http://members.rogers.com/rjmac/new_uninstall.exe

download and run this uninstaller.
Reboot when done and post another log

Also, that link for the LOP uninstaller doesn't work for me, it says the page has moved or can't be displayed. Anyhow, there's the new log, let's see what we can do with it..

MessengerPlus! 3 is still showing up in your log. Is there not an entry for it in Add/Remove Programs that will uninstall it all? If there is, use that and reboot to see if it really has gone. If there's no uninstaller for it, close MessengerPlus! 3 and MSN Messenger / Windows Messenger and then run HiJackThis and select the following entries in HiJackThis to be fixed if they are present:

C:\Program Files\MessengerPlus! 3\MsgPlus.exe

I don't see any signs of Messanger plus3 anymore. And when I reinstall it I will make SURE not to intall the host program. I am currently scanning with both spybot and adaware se personal

Ad aware : couple of tracking cookies, and hijack attempts. Nothing major, and deleted. Thankfully no trace of LOP

Spybot : Found 2 tracking cookies for winfixer, but deleted them.

So, unless there is anything else fishy in that logfile that you can tell me about I think my computer has been purged of LOP, thank you for explaining WHY I got that spyware, and how to avoid it. This website is the best thing to happen to antivirus everywhere. Thanks again guys.

Just one last thing - the new log has an additional entry that wasn't there before:

Get HiJackThis to remove that entry, then reboot and do another scan to check that it's gone from the log file. Then you're all clean
