I have recently been trying to discover (see 9/15--Doctom--spyware forum on the DAL help site) an explaination for my computer failing to facilitate wireless connection to my wireless modem upon initial cpu boot.
Briefly here is a summary of my hardware and software....XP, Verizon DSL connection, Belkin modem, Spybot, SpyBlaster, AdAware, Ewido, Reg. Mech, NAV, and CCleaner.
I followed Owen and Jeffree's advice on preliminary cleaning and maintenance before submitting HJThis log. They found little accept that i might be opening more than enough applications upon comp. boot.
In the last two days when completing a routine cleaning I found the following note at the end of process:
C:\Documents and Settings\owner\local settings\application data\wildtangent\cdacache\00\00\0F.dat/files\wtvh.dll cannot be removed since it is embeded in archive C:\Documents and Settings\owner\local settings\application data.

Does this warning suggest a problem and is there a way to remove this wildtangent?

I have searched in all forums with no success at finding a clear reference to this "problem"

Several things:

if in add/remove -remove

Scan with ewido and if you get an error asking you if you want to delete the archive click yes

Safe mode explained:

Now reboot into safe mode by tapping your F8 key upon restart and safe mode screen appears, select safe mode and press enter.

Make sure you can see hidden files/folders
In Windows XP
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.
After you're cleaned, please "rehide" them again.

reboot into safe mode and delte this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\owner\local settings\application data\wildtangent < folder

Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Ewido trojan scanner: www.ewido.net/en/download/

1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

2. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.

3. From the main ewido screen, click on UPDATE in the left menu, then click the Start update button.

4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run.


5. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.


6. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to this thread, along with a new HijackThis log.


Make sure you are set to normal startup. Click Start -> Run -> Type Msconfig -> Press Enter -> make sure Startup is set to Normal.


Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

I have followed your instructions and will include the log from Ewido and HJT.

One curious discovery when running the Ewido was another embeded item which could not be removed: C:\RECYCLER\s-1-5-21-1844237615-1637723038-725345543-1003\dc6\Cdacache\00\00\0F.dat/files\witvh.dll embeded in the archive C:\....................dat. With the interogatory "Do you want to remove the archive?" I said no, thinking you would suggest i look for the file and delete the same as the wild tangent......???
