    Hi and welcome,

As for your Compaq error... click Start/Run/type in msconfig and press enter and uncheck Compaq Connections, click apply then ok and reboot.

See if that stops that error.

    Are there anymore issues?

what u told me to do did stop the error, but now when i restart i get a screen that says to select my operating system-it gives me 2 options: "microsoft xp home edition" and something like "microsoft recovery console"-before u had me uncheck compaq connections in the msconfig, this NEVER happened on a reboot-the screen with these 2 options only shows for about 3 seconds and then goes away so i guess it's not that big of a deal, but i still would like to know y it is happening and, if possible, is there a way to make it so it doesn't happen?

This link below describes the recovery console:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;307654

If we have to you can always undo the msconfig thing we done and that will restore what we stopped.

I've come across this compaq connections thing before and never had this happen.

Hi again....thanks for the link for the info on what the recovery console is. Yeah, it's really weird - the "compaq connections" error message box has disappeared. But on power-up and/or restart, a full-screen message appears early in the booting-up process which asks for me to choose my operating system. It gives me the option to select XP, or MS Recovery Console. If I do nothing, the screen message disappears within a couple of seconds, and the computer continues booting up as usual. It's not a real big deal, since it goes away on its own and doesn't force me to do anything. The previous nuisance forced me to respond with an "ok" before the boot-up process would continue. Still, I was concerned because it never happened prior to the msconfig change. I will leave it be unless something comes to mind from you or someone else on how to stop it. Thanks again!
