HJT Log - something's eating up system resources

I've run everything - Spybot S&D, Adaware, Spyware Doctor, etc. But something seems to be sapping my system resources.

Anything in this HJT log stick out?

    Hello,jgetman & Welcome

Go for free online Virus scans here:

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hou.../start_corp.asp
    http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location so you can delete it yourself.

after doing the above please post a new HijackThis logfile.

    HGD

    Hi,jgetman

Goto Control Panel Add/Remove Programs & Uninstall/Remove this item
    PSGuard

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
    1) Restart your computer
    2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
    3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
    4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

    Open HijackThis
Place a check against each of the following,

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PSGuard spyware remover] C:\Program Files\PSGuard\PSGuard.exe

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running.
Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed.
Post me the contents of the smitfiles.txt log as you post back.

    Reboot your computer.

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Then come back here with feedback on how the PC is & show new logfile.

I followed your steps, but I can't seem to shake PSGuard. It's not showing up in "Add/Remove" programs, and it doesn't show up in Windows Explorer, even though it's apparently present at c:\windows\programs\psguard

Now, after running the steps, I even get a system tray icon for the PSGuard, which I didn't have before. Here's the SMIT log, followed by a new HJT log:
