    runtime error! iexplore.exe

    Hello there,
Every time I try and open internet exporer, I get this message

    Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

    Runtime Error!
    Program: c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe
The application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I did a quick websearch, and came across this forum (and little other info on the matter).
So I have created a HJT log, which is included below.
Thank you all for your time.

Just thought I'd also add that I run Spybot S&D weekly, along with AdAware.
I have never used a virus scanner (anytime I think somethig fishy is going on, I run McAfee freescan, but have only ever found one JavaScript virus that was quickly and easily removed).
Today, because of the IE error, I downloaded AVG and have just completed a scan; no viruses were found.

Also, I just tried running GTA: San Andreas, and I get a BSOD. Everytime I open it now I get a BSOD with a similar message:
    STOP: 0x0000008E, (0xC0000005, 0xBF932607, OXB227DC44, 0x00000000
    Win32k.sys Address BF932607 base at BF8000000, datestamp 4225181e

The address in bold is the one that changes every time it appears.
Do you think the two are related?
One other thing I forgot to add was that I ran the scannow sfc tool to try and fix the IE problem, but it didn't help me.
    Thanks again for the help.

Sorry to keep posting, but I thought this might be useful.
I usually update windows manually, and as I cannot open IE in order to update windows (three cheers for Microsoft for not letting you do it from Firefox), I thought I had no hope of using a patch to fix this.
Of course I only just now thought of going to My Computer -> Properties and turning on Automatic Updates from there. The latest security patches are now downloading.

I'm afraid I don't see the relevance of the link that you sent me; it seems to be concerned with minimized windows, where my problem is concerned with IE not opening - and GTA San Andreas giving me a BSOD (though I do see the link with the WIN32K.sys file).
I was wondering of maybe the Internet Browser forum might give better results, but I suppose the BSOD problem would be best fixed in the XP forum, so I have posted a topic there:
    http://www.d-a-l.com/help/showthread.php?t=24943

Unfortunately, I'm at work today, and won't be home for 2 more days (Thursday night), so I cannot apply that patch anyway, or try any mroe suggestions until I get home. I was really hoping to have it done yesterday. Blargh!

Here's a fresh new HJT log.
The other thread fixed my BSOD issue, but my IE still own't work, and they believe it likely to be spyware.
    Thank you for your help.

    Well.
I just did a search of the Windows XP newsgroups on microsoft.com, and I heard that someone had the same problem as me, and all they had to do was get rid of the Google search bar, and IE returned to normal.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...&cr=US&m=1&p=1
So I thought I'd have a go, and it worked.
IE now works because I uninstalled the Google Search bar (which had been installed about 1.5 to 2 years ago). I don't understand why that happened, but IE is now working, and I'm elated.
For reference I've posted this solution in all of the threads I have created.
