    SearchToolbar Removal

    Hello,
I've got a toolbar I can't get rid of in IE6. When I right click in the toolbar area, it shows up as "SearchToolbar". But I cannot uncheck it to disable it because all of the listed toolbars are grayed out. Below is the HijackThis log. Please tell me how to 1) get rid of this toolbar and 2) restore my IE toolbar enable/disable menu.

    Thank you very much.

    Hello,leppard87 & Welcome

    Disable Spybot Resident

Please disable Spybot S&D’s protection, as it may hinder the removal of the infection. You can enable it after you're clean.

Open Spybot and click on Mode and check Advanced Mode
    Check yes to next window.
Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner.
    Click on System Startup icon.
Uncheck Teatimer box and/or Uncheck Resident.
    Click Allow Change box.

Then, check next to the computerclock to see if the icon for Spybot is still there.
If it is, right click it and choose 'exit Spybot-S&D Resident'.

    Reboot the computer.

    Then do this here

Press control-alt-delete to get into the task manager and end the follow processes if they exist:
    WareOut.exe

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. if it is uncheck it and try again.

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:
    WareOut

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

These 3 items here did you place them in your HOSTS file
    if not fix them

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VIQAO.DLL<---This file

Go for free online Virus scans here:

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hou.../start_corp.asp

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location so you can delete it yourself.

Thank you very much for the help.

The toolbar is removed. I followed your instructions and scanned using Housecall and Panda online tool, and deleted anything they could not automatically delete.

The only remaining thing is that I still cannot select/deselect the toolbars when I right click in the toolbar area in IE and Windows Explorer.

I would like to mention that before I first posted here, Spybot removed a virus called Trojan.Mitglieder. Don't know if that helps any.

Anyway, here is the latest HijackThis log...

    User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\
    Explorer]
    Here is what is there:
    CDRAutoRun
    NoBandCustomize
    NoDriveTypeAutoRun

    System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\
    Explorer]
This directory doesn't exist in my registry.

I am also getting a popup window I've never gotten before. I don't believe it is from Microsoft. Title bar reads: Winows Security Center.

Thank you again for all of your help. I appreciate it very much.
